To not leave the house on days like this

Crazybaby123 · 12/01/2025 16:02

We try to get out as much as possible, days out, sports , long walks etc. But on days like this I have loads to do, it is freezing cold and getting dark already. Kids are getting on each others nerves though and want to go swimming, which I don't fancy as I don't want to go out and I also don't want to pick up anything. What do you think of some days just not leaving the house... stay in have a roast, do hardly anything,,

YNBU_ yes house days are fine

YBU- no get out you lazy buggers

I'd probably get DH to take them out for a walk or something before lunch

PuppyMonkey · 12/01/2025 17:21

If the kids want to go swimming at 4pm on a Sunday, surely the only response is “don’t be silly, the pool is closed now.” Unless you mean swimming in the sea, in which case the only response is “don’t be silly, it’s dark.”

And then put a film on and have a glass of wine cup of tea.

I don't feel guilty at all but I do feel much better if I get out of the house and get some exercise even if it's just for a short while.

Am in fhe house most of the time during winter. Even days when u do fancy a walk I usually have a club I need to take a kid too and by time we get home, am shattered need fed and don't want to go out again. It depresses me and am fed up

I love having a day in ,I call it pyjamas day. I had to smile last week. A lady phoned in to Deidre on This Morning as she was annoyed at her neighbour who stayed in her PJ's a few days over Christmas. The lady should let people do what they want. There is nothing better than a day spent reading and watching television now and then.

That lady sounds seriously over-invested and creepy. How does she even know what her neighbour is wearing around the house?

mollyfolk · 12/01/2025 22:35

There is nothing wrong with staying home. I personally always go for a walk/get the kids somewhere to move because otherwise it's hell. But we often have "mostly home" days.

CagneyNYPD1 · 12/01/2025 22:38

It is indeed a positive thing to spend some quiet time at home. I love it.

I spent an awful lot of money buying this house, I'm going to spend as much time in it as I can.

Itsallgonesideways · 12/01/2025 22:42

I've spent all day binge watching Patience from Chanel 4 & I don't feel remotely guilty about it. I've got an extremely heavy week at work so I needed some me time to prepare for the madness that lies ahead.

skinnyoptionsonly · 12/01/2025 22:45

It is so weird that it's even a question. Ever so often or every week. All fine.

Suzuki76 · 12/01/2025 22:47

We all pay so much for houses because they're to live in, not just store all your stuff while you're out. 😄

Jollyjoy · 12/01/2025 22:51

There you go. You have the permission of randoms on the internet. You're allowed to stay home sometimes. I'm doing it whether anyone thinks I'm lazy or not!

What on earth! Was she spying on them? And what did she want Deidre to do 🤣

Thanks all, we made it through the day. I did pop out to the corner shop for some gravy, but I drove and it was all of 10 minutes I was outside! I just always feel guilty staying in, not sure if it's some sort of childhood thing as my parents are the up at crack of dawn type of people... but now I have full confidence that it is OK to be like a hermit. We watched disney, had a roast and did a few bits round the house!!

Ahh but our local pool has a 5pm family splash on a sunday... which tbh is great in the summer heat. Not so attractive in the winter with the germs and cold wet hair!
