Cannula pics on social media

Scrolling through my Facebook feed today and come across 3 cannula pics where people tag themselves at a hospital. AIBU or am I right in thinking it’s just plain old attention seeking?

Is this a new trend? I saw a couple yesterday and thought it was a weird thing to post to the world.

Honestly think it must be a trend….a new one is debatable. Just always baffles me that if someone was that ill… why would posting on social media be something you even think about doing? Then there’s the comments “hope you’re okay, what wrong?” And the replies… “I will send you a private message”. Just seems so attention seeking.

Mostly odd that you would know multiple people hospitalised with cannulas in tbh!

Surely this is a rare occurrence?!

Nespressso · 11/01/2025 14:51

Ah yes, with the obligatory comment

“U ok hun? Pm me”

stealthninjamum · 11/01/2025 14:52

In my case these were strangers. Maybe I clicked on one thinking it was weird and an algorithm now thinks I like seeing people in hospital.

I’m putting it down to the time of year and the flu going around! I’ve seen it before on my Facebook, probably twice a year but three posts in one week is definitely a rarity!

Having a cannula inserted does not mean you are very ill.

It's quite a normal procedure at triage when bloods are taken, just in case it is needed later to minimise trauma/ allow access.

It's like individuals that say 'I had to go to A&E' or 'An ambulance came out to me' - none of this means they are particularly sick, more that they turned up at A&E, which anyone can do or they rang an ambulance and described particular symptoms that needed checking, were then checked by paramedics and probably told 'see your GP tomorrow if it continues'.

Ah yes, didn’t think of it like this. I guess some are precautionary in case further treatment is needed.

No-one ever has "to go to A&E" @hagchic - they're always "rushed to A&E" surely?😉

SwerveCity · 12/01/2025 19:28

Attention seeking and just as eye roll inducing as someone “checking in” to A&E

TomatoSandwiches · 12/01/2025 19:31

It's pathetic tbh and I pay the attention seeker no attention.
