WWYD? UK holiday accommodation leaky pipe. Posting for traffic!

Posting for traffic as it’s late and hoping there will be some answers on this board

We are staying in a lodge in the UK at a major holiday park and I can hear a lot of dripping. I got out of bed to see what it was and there is a pipe dripping in the boiler cupboard. I’d say there is a drip every second or two. The whole under cupboard is sodden.

DH asleep, so is my 9 week old. It looks to be a pipe under the boiler.

I don’t know what to do. We can call the site security which is 24hrs but is that dramatic for a leaky pipe? It looks like pipework only down there but obviously I’m not qualified and I dunno if there is also any electric down there.

Put a bowl/bucket under the leak and ring them first thing

They’re open now technically speaking but obviously we wouldn’t want to move at this hour. I’m just worried about any risk of fire / potential problem? Given we have such a tiny baby with us too.

If you are worried about the electrics then turn them off. Might get cold though

It’ll be freezing! It’s going to reach -5

Yep, towel or bucket and call in the morning. They're unlikely to be able to do much tonight. You won't be in any danger.

postingfortrafficc · 11/01/2025 00:34

Honestly no clue what to do.

If I call them now they will prob come out but it’s the middle of the night- what outcome do I expect? All the other accommodation is most likely full.

I am worried about the electrics but I can’t reasonably turn them off when insulation is poor, it’s going to reach -5 and baby DD is 9 weeks old.

I won’t relax if I go to sleep so I feel as though I’m going to have to stay awake. Can’t move my family accommodation at 1am, we have unpacked and we have had to bring so much for the baby and she is settled and asleep here.

Call for advice

They want to send someone out to look. It’s nearly 1am 🙈 I can’t work out if I’m being dramatic and just to leave it or if the concerns are valid. Even if they look what will that achieve? Accepting, oh yes it’s on the blink, would you like to move? Probably not at 1am with all our stuff unpacked!

There is unlikely to be electrics under something that contains water, goes against regulations so stop worrying about that. Either call them now and deal with the upheaval or put a bowl underneath and call them first thing. You really do need to sleep, though, or tomorrow will be ruined.

Are you at Center Parcs? And if so is it in the boiler cupboard ( which is often inside the front door).?
If so it’s a bit away from the bedrooms and I’d risk calling them tonight.
It’s very unlikely that those type of pipes on a single storey building are above the electricity supply, so try not to worry in the meantime.
Edited to say I see that you have now called them out. It’s very probably either an easy fix or something they can isolate until morning.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 11/01/2025 00:43

What would you do if you were at home ?

You are awake, you say there is 24 hour security so does it really hurt to phone and ask ?

Is it really the end of the world if you did have to move ? surely it doesn't take that long for 2 adults to pack up

if you did move do you really have to unpack everything right away, couldn't it be unpacked in the morning ?

It’s next to the front door, we don’t have a porch area as it’s a one bed so it’s all open plan like a studio. Probs why I heard it so loud to be honest!

2 adults and a baby who comes with a pram, car seat, a bed and a whole lot of gear

They will probably be there very quickly. I doubt that they have many calls at this time. I have always found the maintenance staff to be very pragmatic. I hope it’s sorted soon and you can get some sleep.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 11/01/2025 00:52

well a pram doesn't need ' unpacking ' until the morning, same with the car seat. A 9 week old baby sleeps in a bed ?

I reckon the 2 of you could pack in less than 30 mins, and then get to bed in the new place and properly unpack in the morning.

What is staying awake / staying up all night going to achieve ?

if there is going to be a fire you then don't have the time to pack ! you would all be getting out asap !!!

So surely it is better to get advice / assistance now than in one or two or three hours time ?
as the sooner your mind is put to rest the sooner you will get to bed to sleep.

Delphiniumandlupins · 11/01/2025 00:59

Let them send someone to look at it. Or put a bowl or baking tray underneath to catch the drips. Get as much sleep as possible.
