Does a toaster exist which doesn’t throw crumbs everywhere?

I am on a home improvement drive. Fed up with the constant mess.

Tackling every mess making item one by one.

Please tell me a non crumby toaster exists! My one is like it has its own life. Just spreading crumbs all the time.

I am determined to find a solution!

Mumsnet wisdom please help

My Dualit is excellent. You can choose how many slices to cook, it’s perfectly even and you can pop the toast up to check on it. The crumb tray doesn’t make any mess. I do store it on a tray so I can pull it forwards away from the wall units when it’s in use.

Had it at least 10 years and still like new.

This one

I eat a lot of toast!

Would totally agree. Had my first one for about 25 years and the second one is going strong after about seven.

A grill. We binned off the toaster ages and ages ago and use the grill instead.

If you didn't realise that your toaster has a crumb tray that needs emptying from time to time, that explains your issue

MassiveSalad22 · 10/01/2025 19:47

Ours doesn’t! It’s an ancient deLonghi. Toasts evenly too! We keep it in a cupboard and get it out at least morning and after school, minimal crumbs despite all the moving around. (Should keep it out using it that much, but makes me happy having it off the counter)

Dualit all the way. I don't know if they still do them in Costco but they did when we got ours 20+ years ago, slightly cheaper from there at that time. It's still going strong, worth every penny.
Edited to say that Costco on line do them for £169.99. Not sure how much their on line membership is, but you get it for free if you are a warehouse member.

I love our Ninja toaster - you can put it on its side to do toasties & paninis as well. No crumbs here either.

Omg lol. Showed DP he said yes that’s the toaster I want.

Just went to purchase… £219.00!!!!!!!!!! 😱

We’ve had a the steel / chrome version of the one linked for over 25 years now, and it’s still toasts beautifully. One new element and one timer in that time I think.

Howver, for our other home we bought this one from Dualit because the style suited the kitchen better. It toasts just as well but is quite a lot cheaper! There’s a matching kettle too, if that’s a factor:

Kitchen aid.. it raises the bread up so gently 🤣

WonderingWanda · 10/01/2025 19:59

Don't get a breville one, the crumb trays are fine, it's the extra crumb catching channel around the top that pisses me off.

DrFoxtrot · 10/01/2025 20:09

I love my Dualit toaster, it's nearly 25 years old. It does not make a crumby mess unless you start waving the toast about. It was the thing my XH joked about taking when we divorced as he knew he'd have to prise it from my cold dead hands 😂

GuineaPigWig · 10/01/2025 20:13

I have a years old dualit which is great. I’ve never replaced anything. How do I know it needs a new element? Does it just stop working completely?

TheGirlattheBack · 10/01/2025 20:15

My Dualit is 27 years old and still going strong (hope I haven’t jinxed it now) Expensive upfront it was over £100 when we bought it but absolutely well worth the price even at today’s prices.

NotMeNoNo · 10/01/2025 20:18

Yes usually slot 1 or 2 as they tend to get the most use. I think we've had 2 new elements in 25 years.

A grill. We binned off the toaster ages and ages ago and use the grill instead.

We used the grill while the toaster went on its gold to have the heating elects replaced, and we found it dried out the toast.

SporesMouldsAndFungus · 10/01/2025 20:41

/ went on its hols

JohnTheRevelator · 10/01/2025 20:51

Well if it does exist,I'd like to know about it!

Didimum · 10/01/2025 20:56

Love our Dualit Architect toaster. Was £128.

daraghdecember · 10/01/2025 21:09

Don't get a Smeg. Cost a fortune and still rubbish one sided toasting and loads of crumbs

Putthekettleon73 · 10/01/2025 21:20

I've given up and am using the grill for toast. It's a faff but worth it for lack of crumbs!

AmusedGoose · 10/01/2025 21:20

Dualit had for 7 years. Brilliant. Well worth the cost. I keep a small tray under my toaster which helps contain the crumbs.
