Lego collection valuation

AIBU to ask you for an approx valuation / guess at this Lego collection please?

There’s over 1000 figures
Loads of boxes and build guides
Where I’ve taken photo of legos in drawers - there’s over 30 full drawers of Lego - unfortunately I don’t have weighing scales here to give weight guidance. However if each drawer is say 4kg plus all the models I could approx guess total weight of Lego as say 150kg??

I’ll add more images in the comments.

You may do better on a Lego fans site. Depending on rarity minifigs can range from a couple of quid to hundreds.

It really is impossible to say. I have a friend who's lego obsessed and I know from his collection that mini figures value can range hugely.

Some of the boxed stuff holds its value some absolutely rockets.

You'd probably be better joining a Lego fb page where the real fanatics are who'll know at a glance how desirable some of your stuff is - or isn't

Thank you, it’s just I’m a regular mumsnet user - I nearly went into the back story of why I won’t to know this info, but thought this might be best to get a quick approx guide.
Not sure if it’s £1k or £10k value!

You can probably get at least £10 per kilo on the open market. You'll get more if you sell items individually than if you sell it as a job lot to a reseller. It's less hassle of course. I know someone who used to buy it by the kilo, they'd end up driving all over the place meeting people in laybys to get the bricks for cash.

Prices vary wildly. The pirate ship for instance (I'm picking that because I've got one), on eBay it goes from a couple of hundred to people wanting over £2000. What you get depends on how patient you are, whether you want to get rid of it quickly or are willing to hold out for the best price.

Edit: by "buying by the kilo" I'm talking about loose bricks rather than sets. Complete sets, especially boxed with instructions, will get more.

WhingeInTheWillows · 09/01/2025 14:57

Some of these are rare and valuable. You’d need to check for complete sets, undamaged minifigs, rare pieces etc.

SeaShellsSanctuary180 · 09/01/2025 14:58

Just looking at the volume and the themes there is a lot of money there.

There is quite likely to be retired sets or rare figures that are veey collectible.

Is this something that you have time to go through because otherwise you are likely to undersell by quite a bit

Doggymummar · 09/01/2025 15:00

You need to get a proper valuation from a dealer. If you don't know one you could ask your local store. Or email head office. I would imagine there is several thousand pounds there, depends if you can be patient and sell to highest bidder it one person takes the lot for a lower price.

Kinneddar · 09/01/2025 15:00

If youre selling go to a Lego enthusiasts site. My friend has got some serious bargains on FB by buying a box of random stuff & uncovering some gems. One £60 box had about £750 worth of stuff in it

To be fair it could be anywhere between either of those two figures. Bricklink is a good place to identify individual figures.

We have just sold a lot of my sons star wars, HP and Ninjago Lego all for decent money

WhingeInTheWillows · 09/01/2025 15:03

I would say don’t sell by weight unless you’re not bothered about getting a good price. For instance Queen Amidala, first picture top left, is very valuable.

Doggymummar · 09/01/2025 15:04

BrickLink - Buy and sell LEGO Parts, Sets and Minifigures https://search.app/H2ttFc58E64mNrfA6

I would recommend these

bifurCAT · 09/01/2025 15:32

Anyone called dibs? :)

September1013 · 09/01/2025 16:08

The value will depend on whether you sell it individually or as a bulk lot. Ebay or Bricklink will give you a good idea of what individual sets and figures are worth - rarer ones can be worth a huge amount more than the original shop price.

If you can’t sell it individually then I’d find a specialist collector to sell it to. It could potentially be worth five figures if sold individually!

Thank you everyone, that’s given me a great starting point. I’ll research the links and websites etc given.

Vectis do toy valuations for Sotheby's, I would suggest getting in touch with them at [email protected]

Just been doing some research based on your recommendations so thanks everyone.

Looks like there's at least a couple of thousand if not more just based on these two there's nearly £500

And thank you whoever mentioned Amidala found it for £162 on eBay.

Now @Largestlegocollectionever and I just need to convince the owner to sell it all which might be a whole other post Wink

Wow thank you. I can’t believe how much they’re worth.
I’d thought I was perhaps over estimating / exaggerating the value of this collection - as the owner actually pleads poverty, is in his 40’s and lives at his mums house for free with his two children as he says he has no money to move out 😞 so also kind of heartbreaking.

That money could do so much good for the family.
