Best dog friendly dog restaurants in London

Can anyone help - Kensington/Mayfair/Knightsbridge area would be ideal, in an ideal world serving steak.

I am getting mainly cafes when Google searching, but I know I have seen dogs all over - I just haven’t been paying attention!

As an aside to the “dogs in restaurants” debate, as a PP said, Gaucho has really gone downhill since being taken over a few years ago. I would just give the restaurants you like a call and see what they say.

Aaah the usual dog hating
Op, we went to London last summer. We were camping an hour away and took him in for the day. A spaniel so tube carrying was fine, was summer so a picnic in the park was easy.

But to answer you question, not a steak restaurant, sorry, but we did have a fabulous Italian in covent garden if you want details. Dog friendly and the knackered dog just slept under the table .... oddly....

Yes please!
Ours is a spaniel too, and we love Covent Garden.

Oh wow, I’ve eaten here before and it’s the last place I would have ever imagined being dog friendly! Thanks so much, it’s a fab restaurant!

Thank you. I’d seen the Kensington one but the Mayfair one has made my day! Smith and Whistle’s dog menu will top trump any birthday presents I could buy!

It's compulsory to lift dogs on the escalators in the tube stations/train stations

NoMoreDogs · 09/01/2025 13:01

Absolutely sick of dogs everywhere, especially restaurants and shops. WHY do you have to inflict them on the rest of us.

I avoid all dog restaurants, and I know loads of people who do too. I think there will be a backlash soon. Can't come soon enough.

Tinseltuttifruitti · 09/01/2025 13:03

It's so irritating when dogs are on the tube, especially when it's busy.

I’ve found one but can’t delete the thread.
For anyone else wondering, Gaucho are dog friendly, and have a dedicated page on their website promoting this.

The one here in Glasgow is. There was a beautiful and beautifully behaved retriever in when we visited on a quiet lunchtime.

Yes, please give a list so we can avoid them.
Years ago I was horrified in a beautiful restaurant in Paris, to see a woman with a lap dog allowing it to feed from her plate. Never thinking it would come here.

I say that as a dog lover and sitting one for two weeks. He's snoring on my sofa, which I also don't approve of, but that's what he's used to at his home.

Precisely. I am now doing the same with accommodation providers who advertise as dog friendly. But perhaps I should bring my cats - beautifully clean and house trained, a little noisy - Siamese so their cuteness outweighs this surely?, and the food starved one - well she would make sure there was no food waste at all. Can't see a problem at all.

For all the ranting on here, it really does appear to just be becoming more and more normalised.

On the train this week, there was a doodle (large dog) not on a lead, wandering around while his owner went to the loo. He wasn’t bothering people at all, and was very chilled, but the first thing that came to mind was that must be terrifying for anyone afraid of dogs - and also I’m sure illegal, and didn’t seem to have even crossed the owner’s mind. I’ve never taken a dog on the train, bus, anywhere, but I’ve seen so many.

Restaurants are allowing it because of demand. Shops are allowing it because of demand. The demand is coming from somewhere, and that’s driving further demand.

Yes, this is the problem.

The demand is coming from a growing number of entitled dog owners who anthropomorphise their pets. I’m absolutely sick of dogs in eating establishments, it’s disgusting.

Agreed
What a sad user name
So angry when there is so much going on in the world
OP hope you enjoy wherever you go

Recently back from the Philippines and if you go to a mall, all the dogs are either in pushchairs, or those on a lead are wearing nappies.

NoMoreDogs · 09/01/2025 13:18

I have a lot of joy in my life. I am popular, well-liked and well-thought of. I am kind and helpful.

I just can't stand dogs in restaurants or shops. And I consider people who drag their dogs with them everywhere to be thoroughly selfish, inconsiderate arseholes, without a single thought for those of us who are allergic, or simply don't like the idea of dogs where we consume food, be that because the smell puts us off our meal, or we have valid concerns due to bad experiences of dogs trying or sometimes succeeding in stealing our food. My friend witnessed a waitress trip over a dog as it darted out from under the table when another dog walked in. It looked like she was very badly hurt.

Harassedmum123 · 09/01/2025 13:22

Carlotta on Kensington High Street which is also part of the Big Mamma Group is dog friendly as we recently found out. Whilst waiting in the very small and cramped bar area for our table for half an hour, a dog licked my leg then was seated on the table adjacent to us at dinner, actually seated on a seat in the booth next to his owners. This restaurant is £££ so I truly shocked. Personally I will never visit again because of this but your dd may like it.

RatalieTatalie · 09/01/2025 13:27

UtterlyOtterly · 09/01/2025 11:19

Before I eat anywhere I check if it is dog friendly. If it is then they won't get my custom. I hate all this crap about people unable to leave a dog at home. It's an overbred wolf for gods sake.

I would rather eat a packet of sandwiches from Tesco in a bus shelter than eat in a fancy restaurant with dogs there.

well you're welcome to do that aren't you?

user22446688 · 09/01/2025 13:28

Most taxis are happy to take dogs, OP, and if you have (or download) the Addison Lee app you can order a specific one - just go to book a car and scroll down to Pet Select.

We don't take our dogs to restaurants, but I never mind if other people do. We seem not to come across the numerous ill-behaved monsters that plague most of Mumsnet, though. Except at home, which is why we don't take them to restaurants 😅

Hope you and your DDs (daughter and dog) all have a great time!

ChannelFiveDrama · 09/01/2025 13:30

I absolutely love dogs but totally disagree with them in a restaurant. It's inconsiderate to those who may have allergies/phobias first of all but it's also, in my experience, an affectation and attention seeking behaviour. Not saying that applies to you OP but that's what I'd think if I saw you in Gaucho with a spaniel.
