And they are lucky that workers have shown the goodwill to provide cover and extra hours when needed until now. Article

I don't have a subscription and have only read the introductory paragraph to be fair. But even that's amount of information appears to be very misleading 'journalism'.

Article is behind a psywall

Could you give even a tiny clue what you are talking about in your OP or do you expect people to click on your unidentified link?

@CharlotteCChapel to see the article, click the link then immediately click the airplane mode button!

Here’s a non-paywalled article. They have previously been taking action short of a strike (work-to-rule, mainly) but have now voted to strike.

ONS officials vote to strike in office-attendance row

PCS union members vote to escalate action protesting 40% in-office rule

They’ve voted to strike, so it’s a strike.

40% time in office sounds reasonable.

Fluffyholeysocks · 09/01/2025 11:11

Can't see much sympathy from the public tbh.

Nearly 4,000 staff at HM Land Registry, which is responsible for registering the ownership of property in England and Wales, will refuse to cover for colleagues or take on any extra work which they consider to be beyond their job description from Jan 21.

No idea what's in a Land registry job description to know if there's a "and as needed to assist in the smooth running to keep the service going"

lostinthememory · 09/01/2025 11:36

I think if you don't have experience with just how overloaded the HMLR is, you wouldn't understand why they're striking.

HMLR is still dealing with covid backlogs. Registrations (even of the most normal kind), can take 2+ years to register. First registrations of leases submitted in 2022 aren't set to be completed until 2026.

OS1 searches (searches of the register needed before completion) used to come back instantly and can now take up to three days to come back.

They've had their resources cut, moved to new systems and expected to take on more work. I have complete sympathy for them because it's just ridiculous. They're also on the front line for a lot of abuse.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 09/01/2025 12:52

It doesn't say it's been a strike. It says action short of strike
And now they've voted to strike.

TheNoonBell · 09/01/2025 13:11

If they don't come into the office send them a P45 to their home address.

After that we can start to reform the ever growing, currently £140+ billion public sector pensions bill.

To think this is not a 'strike'...
ginasevern · 09/01/2025 13:23

They're actually striking because they don't want to go into the office?

Ablondiebutagoody · 09/01/2025 13:23

Their productivity is shit. I think that they should be in the office.
