Today is DD's 4th birthday and DH doesn't want to do anything to make the day special at all...

to be fair to DH, she had a big old party on friday from 1.30 till 6 with 2 different groups of friends, bouncy castle, bubbles, face painting and loads of birthday food and cake and we went to the theatre yesterday as a birthday treat .

today we were meant to be going on a day out .. but I've done my back in so can't face the hour drive each way .. I have suggested we get her another cake but he says 'she's had one stop making a fuss' and doesn't seem to want to do anything .. he even seems narked that I've painted her face

she's happy whatever I know

I kind of agree with him, it is a birthday, not a a birthweekend.

themoon66 · 04/05/2008 11:54

If you fancy baking, then make her a cake.

Twiglett · 04/05/2008 11:55

I do OTT very well though

She has had some lovely celebrations and at 4 she will not worry about the actual day. You should go to bed and rest your back and don't fret.

DH could be more tactful perhaps, but men generally are not renowned for sensitivity and tact .

Hope you feel better soon.

MrsMattie · 04/05/2008 11:56

Why not make cakes together? And have a little family birthday tea? That's sufficient, surely.

Happy Birthday Twiglett!

(does that help?)

soapbox · 04/05/2008 11:59

What did you do on your DS's birthday - will she notice the difference in effort

pointydog · 04/05/2008 12:00

I agree with dh that there's no need for any more trips.

But we always have a cake on the actual birthday. Even it it's a fancy fairy cake. So I'd rustle up a party tea or even a party picnic for the garden/park.

soapbox · 04/05/2008 12:01

Anyway - take her swimming/paddling pool in the garden/hose pipe fight/ water gun fight/ park with coffee and cakes or picnic/special home cinema - draw all the curtains, shove on a fav dvd and serve popcorn and loads of sweets and sugar filled drinks then when she is absolutely hyper tell DH that your back is playing up and you are just going for a little lie down

BreeVanderCampLGJ · 04/05/2008 12:06

at Soapy.

BreeVanderCampLGJ · 04/05/2008 12:07

Actually I have been thinking about this in the shower and she should still have a small birthday tea.

Twiglett · 04/05/2008 12:22

see bree?

I knew she should have a birthday tea

fairy cakes in the oven .. they're going to decorate them after lunch

(DS had party at home after school, theatre trip with 2 friends at weekend and family meal out on actual birthday at restaurant of his choice)

just have to say the theatre trips sound really poncey but it's at a children's theatre which does £5 a seat preview shows and they love love it .. so much more than cinema trips

pointydog · 04/05/2008 12:31

a theatre trip doesn't sound poncy! You've been subverted by mn

Twiglett · 04/05/2008 13:18

yeah .. like I tell him when I'm bitching about him online

fair point pointy (bumped into motherinferior there anyway so it had MN approval)
