Kids Cleaning

I have no questions, I just needed to moan somewhere they won't see it.

We have DS 16 and DS 18.

Today, kids have been at home since 12pm.

I have walked in half an hour ago from the office to be met with them both grinning at me as I walked in. My 16 year old has been being a massive p recently (this is relevant 😂)

Anyway, they're all smiles, and they are like....look around. I was like what? what's happened?

They have spent all afternoon deep cleaning the house (knowing I had planned to do it on Saturday- so as to give me my time back which is lovely)

BUT.....as I walked around, I saw pieces of food on the plates on the draining board, they have somehow managed to mop the bathroom floor whilst mixing in what looks like every piece of dog hair they have managed to find in the house 😂, they've washed the pillow covers and put them all back on the wrong pillows so they are all skewiff, smeared all the mirrors 😂

They are both so proud of themselves and as I said my 16 year old has been being very unhelpful lately and he's really proud of himself and the effort he's made to buck his ideas up.

However I am now going to have to go around silently cleaning up the cleaning 😂.

I will correct them on how to do it properly next time- but I am appreciating their effort and thoughtfulness on giving me my weekend back on this occasion and my son having taken on board what we have said to him about responsibilities.

That’s funny Grin

Sounds like when I ask my husband to clean the bathroom.

Well, I wouldn't kill their enthusiasm!

I'd follow the advice to use "and" not "but"

I'd be really thankful, say they clearly put a lot of effort and time in. You really appreciate it.

And so they don't have to do a big deep clean again, could they do x task each week? So so helpful and appreciated. Then when they do it, give them the tools and guidance to do it right.

Can I whinge too?

My teen never scrapes her plate into the bin
She doesn’t put rubbish in the bin and instead leave it on the side above the bin
Cant put her coat and shoes away in the cupboard
Leaves her washing on the floor with socks and underwear stuck in pj bottoms
Leaves glasses in her room

Shes never been brought up to be lazy so I’d be thrilled if she did some cleaning up.

We have a new task system in place for them both as they were being lazy fu......

They just thought they would do a big clean for me that I do once a month to start it off with a bang. 😂

I will do that with the cleaning product advice.

What is with leaving the rubbish above the bin! Mine do that too. Or washing next to the washing basket ffs. And retrieving cutlery from their rooms is like a trip to Ikea!😅

My ds 20 just messaged he has done the dishes..
New skill as previously had a dishwasher..
He will have used lukewarm water with no cloth. And I know he has had egg and bacon in my new non stick frying pan. I did have the sense to throw all metal utensils out when I bought them..
Memo to self to order him a sticker book.... Bless.

Further weird tip is that I learned how to really clean when I volunteered for a cat shelter. For a out 60s when the cats were released, that room was spotless. And afterwards, kitten play!

Of course, I wouldn't lead with, "go clean for a dog/cat shelter", I'd lead with the kittens and puppies!
