Only if I had just driven through or on something that colour.

CaptainBeanThief · 07/01/2025 15:29

Looks like you've driven over a shit load of salt and grit???
You could do with jazzing up your alloys tho ;)

MassiveSalad22 · 07/01/2025 15:32

Because of no mud on the hubcap?
Or because the tyre looks really small in that wheel arch?

(I know nothing about cars)

Itsablackcat · 07/01/2025 15:32

Drove through mud near the beach, but it looks weird? Like part of the car is higher up or am I imagining it? Worried about suspension. When I was driving it was making crackling type noises, rang dh and he said is probably just the mud coming off and that’s making the noise 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ignore me if i’m being crazy, no sleep last night, but really can’t afford more car bills at the mo

You’d need to see it with a picture of both wheels for comparison.

hopefully all ok though

CaptainBeanThief · 07/01/2025 15:33

The mud was probably splattering from the wheel to the back of the car, nothing to worry about x

Itsablackcat · 07/01/2025 15:58

Seems like the front wheel is lower down

I often drive my car through muddy fields and it makes a splattering banging noise as the mud gets thrown of the tyres.

delphinedupont · 07/01/2025 16:21

Can you google the make, model and year of your car and get a side profile to put your mind at rest? I can’t see that driving through mud would have affected the suspension of the car.

Measure the gap between the wheel and the arch for the same wheel on each side (so both fronts or both rears). It should be the same (different axles might have somewhat different ride heights) - if it isn't get it checked. Also just try bouncing the iffy corner (easier if it's the front I guess) as often suspension issues can be heard from the outside that way and see if it sounds the same as the other side.

Edit to add that at least suspension issues tend to be on the cheaper end of the spectrum when it comes to car repairs (although all things are relative...)

Itsablackcat · 07/01/2025 16:34

I thought suspension issues were pricey for some reason

Well compared with clutches, gearboxes, timing belts/chains etc., they are cheap - but still usually £100-£300 depending on what it is.

mollymazda · 07/01/2025 16:40

i actually zoomed in on the photo because it looks photo shopped to me? how has the inner wheel got do dirty yet not a mark on the hub?

mollymazda · 07/01/2025 16:42

and without knowing make and model of the car.. its hard really to tell.. looks like the photo is taken at an odd angle.

zingally · 07/01/2025 16:42

The wheel looks very small for the size of the wheel arch. You don't say what kind of vehicle it is, but every car I've ever had, including my current very average 6 year old Corsa, the wheels pretty much fill the wheel arch.

CaptainBeanThief · 07/01/2025 16:52

Id say juke or qashqi from looking at the wheels?

You can't compare front to back, they're on different axles and will most likely be a different suspension layout.

Compare the left and right ones, just measure the gap between the tyre and the wheel arch with your hand to see if they're sitting roughly the same.

The sound was most likely the grit falling off and hitting the inner wheelarch.

Def not photoshopped, just my car, this is it, no idea, looks weird 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thats what I mean, looks like a large gap, thats why i worried about suspension i dont know
