Rash under breast

Stopandbreathe · 06/01/2025 21:07

I noticed a small rash under one breast last week - I don't have big boobs so its not a normal occurrence for me! I've tried sudocreme but it's not doing much - does anyone know what it might be? I have been using a different washing powder so will change back, just wondered if anyone had any ideas what it might be/if I should be worried?! Will make a doctors appointment at the end of the week if no improvement.

Bang a bit of caneston on it.

Dramatic · 06/01/2025 21:10

Might be a fungal thing, I had it once and used a cream called Daktarin (I think, something like that anyway) and it cleared up fairly quickly. Is it quite itchy?

MrsMoastyToasty · 06/01/2025 21:11

Use some athletes foot spray on it. Then once it's cleared up use antiperspirant there.

Bunniemalone · 06/01/2025 21:14

Probably change of washing powder. I have had similar. Find if you wash with a gentle soap. I used cuticura soap & dry properly then add small amount of cuticura powder, it clears up quickly.

susiedaisy1912 · 06/01/2025 21:16

Yep as others have said it's a fungal sweat rash I get it sometimes. Canesten always clears it up

Mindymomo · 06/01/2025 21:17

I would try some hydrocortisone cream, you can get low dose cream over the counter at chemist, looks like eczema rash, I too get this if I change washing powder, so I stick to Fairy non bio and keep to the same fabric conditioner.

EsmeSusanOgg · 06/01/2025 21:20

Looks like a yeast infection. Caneston cream is your friend.

Kerantli · 06/01/2025 21:20

I get similar quite a lot, hydrocortisone is what I use to clear it up, and keeping the area as dry/clean as possible

That’s shingles OP

Why do you say that, I've had a similar rash before and it cleared up with some medicated powder, I can't remember the exact name, it was a boots own brand one

I wouldnt take up a gp appointment

catsnore · 06/01/2025 22:10

If it's itchy and annoying but not painful it's most likely infected sweat rash, you can use an anti-fungal, athletes foot type cream on it or ask your pharmacist for something like Daktacort. Make sure to change your bra regularly and wash hot enough to kill anything lurking.

If it's painful, on one side of the body and clustered along a nerve it could be shingles - pharmacist can help with that too these days.

user1471505494 · 06/01/2025 22:22

Speaking from painful experience Wash it gently. Dry with a hair dryer. Sprinkle on Daktarin Powder which you can buy from a chemist. The powder is better than creams as it keeps it dry. If it gets worse or spreads try to get an appointment with a Nurse at your GPs.

Ace56 · 06/01/2025 22:29

I get this every so often, also under my breasts. I’ve come to the conclusion it’s some kind of heat/sweat rash so try not to wear a bra when it flares up. Also talc powder to dry it out and hydrocortisone cream. It sometimes still lasts a couple of weeks though, so be prepared.

Angrymum22 · 06/01/2025 22:31

Due to wearing more clothes ( cold weather) it’s probably got a bit sweaty and the normal critters that live on our skin have gone into over drive.
Have a chat with your pharmacist, but check they are able to prescribe medicines first, most are, they may be able to prescribe Fucidin ointment/cream which will clear it up rapidly.
Wash and thoroughly dry the apply cream very sparingly, otherwise you sweat more. Then wear lose clothing and give the girls some air.

Jaapssthia · 06/01/2025 22:32

It’s thrush. Use Canesten on it. Keep applying it for a week after the rash has gone.

re PP's comments about shingles aboWHat made me realise I had shingles last year (or year before last - Dec 23) it was reading that it only occurred on one side of the body that made me realise - thanks Dr Google.

I'd previously seen a GP, and my hairdresser had looked & thought it was insect bites (It was at the back of my neck, so I couldn.t really see it.)
When I went back to the GP, & said "I think it's shingles" she confirmed that it was shingles once she'd taken a look.

I spotted in the pharmacy later that shingles is something that they now encourage you to seek advice from a pharmacy for,
If that is what it id, the sooner you get treatment the better.

And stating the obvious - try to wear a cotton bra rather than man made fibres.

Thanks for all the replies, some really useful advice here which I will try - much appreciated.

It's a fungal infection due to sweat, I get it. Buy a fungal cream, ask at the counter as it needs to be 1% strength. It will have died down within a day, but keep applying it for around a week.

MiaMichele · 30/08/2025 19:37

Wow, had it for years.I've been using nysatin powder from the doctor on it isn't really doing anything. This morning I wrote up with a huge oozing rash

It’s fungal. If Canesten doesn’t work, you can get something stronger from your GP.

Wtafdidido · 31/08/2025 16:48

No matter what get it checked. A rash can be the only sign of some types of inflammatory breast cancer so though it is likely nothing get it checked by a professional not the internet. I currently have breast cancer that wasn’t picked up early enough so please just get it checked.
