Moving house near family vs away

I’d be grateful for your thoughts on this because it’s a dilemma we are facing! We currently live in central London and we adore where we live. Our families/parents live on the other side of London. We want to move away from central London because we have a baby and we want a garden, a larger house and less hustle-bustle.

We have narrowed it down to two areas and we cannot decide between the two. We haven’t begun looking at houses yet as we wanted to decide the area before traipsing across London. I’m slightly more swayed to moving closer to family. I won’t give the exact areas as they may be outing but if you’re aware of London areas then PM me and I’ll share. To add, neither area is close to our work and they’re both long commutes but for various reasons we don’t want to move closer to work given what we’re looking for with regards to space.

North London Area:

  • Can get much more for our money, larger house with bigger garden and driveway
  • 10-15 mins away from parents and siblings. Parents regularly help with childcare especially if we have more DC
  • Not very good state schools, would have to go private
  • Not many good shops/high street

West London Area:

  • Smaller houses with smaller gardens but very nice
  • a lovely area with a “village” feel and a lovely high street
  • Very good state schools
  • Nicer atmosphere/community

Any guidance?

It's got to be west london

I would be minded to look at a few properties in your price range first because sometimes online doesn't give the whole picture

Also if you will have long commutes, if you have a supportive family who can collect a child when the trains are broken - that could be a huge benefit

That’s what I was thinking too about the trains being broken! My mum could pop and pick DD up.
