Compensation for delayed flight

I experienced a long delay on an easyjet flight just over a week ago on the day of the bad fog.

The reason for the delay was initially due to the fog and air traffic control but then they needed to get a new crew due to the crew not having enough hours left in their shift to fly, this pushed the delay out to nearly 5 hours. We then got on the plane and they discovered a fault with some of the communication equipment so eventually by the time this was fixed our total delay was 6 hours.

Under the EU rules you are automatically entitled to compensation after a 5 hour delay but not if due to weather.

Given this was due to multiple factors will compensation be due in these circumstances?

Think only the plane fault would count,

Apply anyway and see what happens.

I've applied for what may well be the same flight🤣. They can only say no and for the 5 minutes of form filling it's worth a punt.

Just to add its the time you landed not the time you set off you calculate the delay from, coming back from a city break last year our flight set off 3 hours late but landed “only” 1 hour and 45 mins after the scheduled time.

I was a little disappointed as the compensation we would have received was more than the cost of the flight. But the airlines aren’t silly so give inflated landing times, especially on shorter flights.

No. Fog is weather which is exempt. You might claim incidentals on your travel insurance

Just complete the form and see what they say.

We had similar a few years ago with Jet2, where the original delay was due to weather but the subsequent delay was due to crew time and securing a landing slot back in the UK, we got nothing!

We had something similar where our flight was delayed by nearly 24 hours. The initial reason caused 7 hours of delay and was outside of their control so not claimable. However further things happened which were within their control and increased the delay.

The airline rejected the claim as the initial reason was outside of their control. We complained to the ombudsman who ruled in our favour.
