To eat this sticky toffee pudding?

Bought a M&S Gastropub sticky toffee pudding as part of their £15 meal deal. The box says it's not freezable, but I can't see why not. I wanged it in the freezer anyway and am now thinking of defrosting and scoffing it later. Here's the ingredients list - any reason not to get stuck in?

There's nothing dangerous in it, but it probably won't react well to being frozen e.g the texture will probably change due to the formation of ice crystals during freezing. It may also have the different liquids defrost at a different rate, so you could end up with the sticky toffee a semi frozen mess at the base

That's reassuring, thank you. I might as well defrost it and see what happens 🙏🏼

I think it will probably be not the best texture but if you expect that, it should be fine.

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 05/01/2025 15:42

it might not taste as good as it would have fresh but I doubt it’ll be dangerous. I’d eat it.

I have done this, the sponge was just a bit soggier than normal. Tasted fine.

Makemineasoda · 05/01/2025 15:44

Does it say anywhere that it was previously frozen? If not, wire in!

Ticketytutu · 05/01/2025 15:45

I froze a Waitrose lemon tart which said not for freezing…absolutely fine ! Your pudding will be glorious.

Thanks everyone - there's nothing on the box to indicate previous freezing and I can cope with a bit of soggy sponge 😀

I think it just means if you freeze it, expect to be disappointed... But hey? Live life on the edge and all that. Let us know the outcome 😜

Enough custard, cream or ice cream and I bet no one would notice!

I freeze most things, they're nearly always alright.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 05/01/2025 17:30

I'd certainly eat it. It may have a few crystals in it or the texture may be a bit odd but it'll taste the same, ie delicious.

Has to be custard with sticky toffee pudding! Defrosting and eating an unfreezable sticky toffee pudding is already risky enough, you don't want to be adding cream into the mix. 😉

Just checking in to let you know that the the pudding - along with some M&S Madagascan vanilla custard - was eaten last night.

It was absolutely delicious, not at all soggy or crystallised and it didn't kill anyone - result!
There's actually another one in the freezer so we'll be having that next week and not thinking twice about it.
Thanks again for all your helpful advice 🥰
