Is anyone else’s house out of control after Christmas?

Four year old and one year old. Upstairs looks like the proverbial tornado has gone through it and left clothes, toys, random items strewn everywhere. Bathroom is filthy and disgusting. Downstairs isn’t much better.

desperately trying to sort but it’s like … well, it’s pointless 😂 😭

Same. But since Christmas 2019. Still counts right?

Mine are older but do sweet FA so it’s all on me. Tree is away and all Christmas decs in the loft. I’ve had a good new years clean out and have thrown 2 black sacks of crap out of my bedroom and bagged 3 black sacks up for charity shop. Rest of the house still a mess though!

Until the decorations are away it is like moving sand on the beach. Throw away all the rubbish. Grab 2 pillow cases and put all the toys in these divided by owner. Put the sacks in the kids rooms. Have a cup of tea and a biscuit. Relax, they are only little at Xmas for a short time and it sounds like you have made the most of it and enjoyed it so well done.

Yep.

Finally started to sort it yesterday but with minimal gusto.

Me! This two week break is manic as we have so many different family members who all want to see us (DD really). Not relaxing at all, but nice to see everyone. Meanwhile there are unwrapped gifts and half built Lego sets lying about, my office was a dumping ground so need to sort that for work tomorrow, and the kitchen is a disaster. All that to do later... After another visit 😅

I found putting all the Christmas decorations / tree away helped to reduce clutter.

And all the new toys have found ‘a home’.

Did have to do about 12 loads of laundry over 48h though.

Feels slightly reset now. Will need to do a toy cull at some point, but that can wait, plenty of long wet weekends in the coming months.

The worse thing is the Christmas decorations are away. It’s mostly that laundry has been strewn everywhere and clothes and things are rammed in drawers and nowhere to put anything - ugh.

so o make a plan, you feel out of control when you don’t have a plan.

Do one drawer a day - get rid of anything you don’t need, doesn’t fit, if you start with one and do 2 that’s a bonus.

Daily - pick up rubbish and throw it out.
Make sure say cups and plates are in the kitchen and wash up - if you do this daily it becomes a habit.

The less we own the better!!

Get all the laundry in a pile together and separate into washes. Gives you a feeling of control. Then sit and have a cup of tea and a biscuit. They are tiny, enjoy them.
