Why am I leaking wee all of a sudden?

Not sure where best to post for this. I’m 40, two kids youngest being 5, and in the last few months I’m noticing after going for a wee I’m leaking a couple of drops having just gone.
I would have expected this post childbirth etc but it didn’t happen, so why now randomly? Worried this could get worse? And that I will start to smell of wee 😮 sex life killer.
am I not too young for my pelvic floor to just go?
would an electronic pelvic floor machine stop this?
any help appreciated!!!!

Thinking about it, I sometimes go to the loo, do a wee, then if I really push a load more wee comes out. So not fully emptying without effort. And now the random drops of leakage. What’s this?!

Yes I agree with other posters having been in there phase too - welcome to peri menopause

cessnaflyer · 04/01/2025 17:21

Please don't say every symptom is the perimenopause, op if it's different for you see your gp.

AnnaMagnani · 04/01/2025 17:25

@cessnaflyer even if it is perimenopause, you should still see your GP.

Saying it's perimenopause doesn't mean grin and bear it.

Woah, do we have a real doctor on the thread? Don't blind us with science, now 😁

Gabitule · 04/01/2025 17:43

This is partly due to age, and possibly some mild infection.

I am 43, I have no children and I noticed I sometimes leak wee and I am also a bit ‘loser’ - if I wear small tampons they start to slowly come out by themselves :(.

Not sure how much pelvic floor exercises help as I’ve been doing them for a while. If you’re not sure which muscle to tighten, just stop your flow when you’re in mid pee. It’s those muscles.

it sometimes sucks being a woman :(

JHound · 04/01/2025 17:46

What do you mean after using the loo?

Do you mean immediately after when walking around. Or when still on the loo?

I notice my bladder function has been odd, my pelvic floor seems weaker even with no kids and regular Pilates.

I intend to go to the Dr Too as I suspect it is age related.

Ok yes this is me too - even down to the comment about tampons! It’s so odd as I thought having zero kids I would be ok.

It appears not.

JHound · 04/01/2025 17:49

Go to the doctor. I have had this as my bladder also does not completely empty even though I am unable to push the rest out. I have been putting it off but will give you advice I mean to give to myself - go to the doctor!

I agree. Just saying not everything is perimenopause.

dizzydizzydizzy · 04/01/2025 17:55

Yes losing weight may well help. Excess fat can press on your bladder.

Go to your GP, OP. I became incontinent quite suddenly. I've no idea why. I didn't have a UTI. The GP prescribed a tablet which helped a lot and she advised me to contact be bladder nurse, who was also veg helpful. The problem went away again, almost as suddenly as it started.

OurDreamLife · 04/01/2025 17:57

I’ve been told in the past to lean forward slightly as it apparently helps any remaining urine pass. It’s probably worth mentioning to GP.

OurDreamLife · 04/01/2025 18:00

Ricecakesaremyjam · 04/01/2025 15:52

And will losing weight help? I’ve piled it on over the last couple of years not going to lie 🫣

Yes. Weight is a factor to these sort of problems.

MajorCarolDanvers · 04/01/2025 18:00

you need to get some tena pant liners or similar.

Dotto · 04/01/2025 18:02

Agree with PPs to see your GP - say you have incomplete voiding.

No I hate those fucking adverts. Leakage is not normal or something to simply put up with, whilst the manufacturers of 'pee pants' happily rake it in.

Flightsoffancy · 04/01/2025 18:08

I had something similar and it turned out to be a sensitivity to caffeine. I realised it was happening about an hour or so after a second coffee. I cut out all caffeine and it stopped. Then I reintroduced until I worked out what my bladder could tolerate. Not much at all!

KittleZee · 04/01/2025 18:08

I could never get the hang of kegel exercises, so I bought one of these weighted tampons: link
You start with the larger one with fewer weights, and then work up to using all of the weights in the smaller tampon. I try to remember to use them when I brush my teeth, so that I’m using them regularly. I couldn’t hold them at all when I started, but you build up quite quickly, and they’ve made a huge difference to me.

Ask the GP for a referral to a women's health physio or if you can afford it book a couple of sessions privately.
The exercises will probably be pilates based using bands and will exercise different areas of your pelvic floor.
She will also check for any prolapse or menopausal effects.

MimiGC · 04/01/2025 18:14

If you're on Twitter, follow Elaine Miller @GussieGrips, she is very knowledgeable about all things related to women's pelvic floor, exercises, leaking, etc.

Owly11 · 04/01/2025 18:22

My pelvic physio said that to deal with this you should 'milk the urethra' after urinating. That involves doing a couple of lkegels after urinating, then having a good old shake/wiggle and then repeat both steps. But yes it does just get worse and worse from here on in. I would suggest acting fast and go to your gp and ask for a referral to a pelvic physio so that you can start doing kegels now.

mumorme2 · 04/01/2025 18:35

I had this a few months ago and it seemed to come out of nowhere and just got worse and worse even though I thought I was doing kegals regularly (3 children vaginally).

I started using the squeezy app 3 times a day and it’s MUCH better now. Hardly ever leak. But I have to be very disciplined at doing the exercises. I also have weighted things that you insert but I actually think the squeezy app is better.

its all really distressing and I was absolutely disgusted with myself while it was bad, so you have my utmost empathy. It’s crap.

tinselstead · 04/01/2025 18:44

strongly suggest vaginal oestrogen cream. It helped me more than kegels although they helped too. Also check out Dr Kelly Casperson on instagram. as well as the wonderful 'Gusset Grippers' woman, Elaine somebody.

womanjustwanttohavefun · 04/01/2025 19:35

I'd check for a UTI first

Then get a Perifit exerciser- great little feedback you, you play games on an app using the pelvic exerciser. Easy, simple, effective
