Add to your favourites but not buying

Selling things on Vinted. A lot of people adding to their favourites but not actually buying. What’s the point? Why do people keep it in their favourites for months and months without buying? Genuinely do not understand, drives me mad. Am I the only one? Am I missing something?

It saves it so you can get back to it. And compare with similar things. Just like putting in your basket on any other website before making your final decision.

I'd think even if you don't do it, you could understand why it's a function and how it might be useful.

Whattochoose1 · 04/01/2025 14:54

I might want it but it might be too expensive so I'll add it and see if it drops in price...or buy it any way in a moment of madness a while later.

The more it's favourited the more it shows on people's feed so I'd not get to annoyed

manystarsinthesky · 04/01/2025 15:04

I see what you mean, but when the item is £2 I’m not sure how much more it can drop. You are right though, it helps showing on other peoples feeds so might be good.

Oh it wouldn't occur to me to go back and unfavourite things, does it matter?

I favourite things so that when I log in next time a list of things I like pops up without me searching.

I do this rather than buying everything I like first time round because I'd spend a fortune 😂

If I'm only paying £1 or £2 for an item, I generally want to buy a few things from the seller to make the postage less per item. If you only have 1 thing I want to buy, I might favourite it and check back later to see if you added anything else.

ThinWomansBrain · 04/01/2025 22:19

If I want to buy something - say a jumper - I favourite a few that I like, then have a look at those I've shortlisted.
And as a PP has said, it feeds into algorithms in terms of flagging up things your likely to be interested in.

Personally I tend to look at branded & more expensive items - it's not worth the postage costs, although people may be favouriting lower value items on the off chance you add another item that they are interested in and then combine postage.

Reasons why I favourite an item:
• I like it but not sure if enough to actually buy, so I'm keeping it in mind. Especially items that may only be 2-5 pounds, so I won't offer a lower price, but with the added fees and delivery I'm hesitant until I know for sure.
• It helps similar stuff show up higher/more for me.
• It's super expensive but I really like it so I'll favourite it until I either am willing to spend the ££, or the seller suddenly drops the price.

I have turned off the thing in settings that alerts sellers when I favourite an item, however. Don't want lots of messages popping up asking if I'd like to make an offer or whatever, but also to not annoy them with yet another alert.

I do it because I like to stick a load of items in my favourites just from a first glance as I'm scrolling through without clicking on further details.

Then once I've done, I go back in & compare each favourite to see which I actually want to buy.

So if I'm searching for a red coat, I favourite a load I like the look of. But after looking at further info, one might be too short, have a button missing etc. so I discount them from the pile!

I do it as often I see something and impulsively want it but don’t need it. So I keep it as a favorite and see how I feel about it a while later. Often completely forget about it.

Snackle · 04/01/2025 22:44

I do it if I think something is priced too high and I’m waiting to see if it comes down, or if I’m looking for something specific I might favourite a few different options so I can then go back and compare them before deciding which to get.

Often I find that favouriting something prompts a lower offer from the seller so I think it’s always worth doing!

Sprogonthetyne · 04/01/2025 22:45

If I'm looking for something (say a coat) I'll scroll through and like the ones I'm considering, then go to the favourites list to compare then ones I've selected and pick which one I like best to order. Usually I unfavourate the ones I don't order, but sometime forget and so they would sit in my favourites list for months, until next time I'm buying something and notice the last list is still there.

I mainly use Vinted for children's clothes and usually you find more than one listing of the same item on there, so I often 'favourite' things I like so I can compare against others listed and choose the best. And then I forget about it, I don't go back through de-favouriting those I'd earmarked but not purchased. So I could feasibly have something favourited until it's sold to someone else.

mummabubs · 04/01/2025 22:52

As a seller it doesn't bother me at all personally. But that's probably informed by my reasons for favouriting items as a buyer:

  • Saves the item so that I can think about it and therefore am less likely to make an impulse purchase I layer regret.
  • Allows me to compare multiple listings of same item for price/ condition before committing to buy one.
  • Sometimes it's almost like Pinterest in that I might see an item and think "oo, I like that but wish x or y was different about it" and that listing helps me to narrow down what I'm looking for.

I do try and unfavourite items that I know I won't purchase mind.

Yep, I do this, too. If I'm searching for a grey jumper, I favourite a few and then compare and narrow down to choose the one I want the most.

Also, I might favourite items I like but can't necessarily afford at the time in the hopes they'll still be there when I've next got some spare money. That includes items as cheap as £2, once postage is added it's more like a fiver and I might not have that spare for a few more weeks.
