Do you have a cleaner? Looking for some cost advice

I am looking to get a cleaner. I am trying to assess the costs. We live in midlands in a 4 bed house which has 2 baths and a WC and 2 lounge. It's not huge, around 1500 sq feet spaced in total. What should be the cost I need to budget for this?
I have young DC so need help but not looking to spend a fortune.
If you have a cleaner, how much do you spend each month and if not, how do you keep on top of things?

I pay £15/hr (for a single cleaner) for three hours a week - our house is slightly bigger than yours, but in reality, they can only just get through cleaning bathrooms / kitchen and hoovering downstairs rooms and hall/stairs in those three hours (I don’t get them to do bedrooms).
We have a big sheddy dog so I have to hoover / sweep downstairs at least once in between visits (more often if I have time, which I often don’t).
The cleaner helps us just about keep on top of things, but if I had endless money / the cleaner had endless time, I would definitely have more cleaning hours!

I live on the Yorkshire/Derbyshire border so costs are probably similar to yours. House sounds a similar size too. I pay £32 a week for 2 hours of cleaning and my cleaner does the downstairs (hall, large kitchen diner, two living rooms and cloakroom) whilst we keep on top of things upstairs. If I wanted her to do all of it I'd pay for 4 hours a week and accept that not every bedroom would be done each week.

They'll need 4 hours to do it all given the number of toilets and bathrooms. You could have fortnightly to keep costs down. There's a lot of regional variance in cost. Oddly it's cheaper for me to get a cleaner in London
(£15 an hour pretty standard) compared to my friend in the North East where the going rate in her area is more like £20.

Porcuporpoise · 04/01/2025 12:34

The other thing to bear in mind is that, to clean at this rate, it needs to be tidy. That can be challenging, esp in bedrooms.

I would want the whole house cleaned

I pay for three hours a week, slightly bigger house. I always tidy first so it’s just come in and clean. £45 a week. My cleaner doesn’t clean the kitchen/diner in her three hours, never has done. She does a fantastic job, under/behind furniture, polishes the tiles in two bathrooms, dusts/wipes the bannisters - all things I definitely wouldn’t do very well or often.

I don’t touch the house in between visits. I literally just keep the kitchen diner clean.

LilExhausted · 04/01/2025 13:08

It sounds like it would be around 3 hours then.

More like 4 if you want it all done

Rictasmorticia · 04/01/2025 21:04

We pay 18 per hour through an Agency. Some private cleaners charge £16.50
.

4 bed, 2 bath, 1600 sq ft house here. We pay £17ph for 2.5 hrs a week.

HelpMebeok · 04/01/2025 21:08

I have a cleaner for 3 hours and she doesn't do the bedrooms. She's really good but I want her to focus on other living areas. To do a good job I would advise at least 4 hours for that sized house. She charges £23 an hour and supplies her own products and equipment.

LouisvilleSlugger · 04/01/2025 21:13

We pay £23 ph in SE. 6 hours pw but often ask for more (she’s happy to be flexible). 5 bed house, 3.5 bathrooms (1 main, 1 en-suite, 1 Jack & Jill, 1 cloakroom).

BallerinaRadio · 04/01/2025 21:15

It doesn't really matter what other people are paying who are hundreds of miles away from, you're best off just getting some quotes locally and ideally meeting then and showing what needs doing

fruitypancake · 04/01/2025 21:29

Ours done upstairs one week and downstairs the next - this works well . / hours a week

Nevermind31 · 04/01/2025 21:49

£70 a week for four hours. 2000 square feet, 3 bathrooms plus downstairs toilet.
She doesn’t change sheets, do windows, clean oven or empty the dishwasher (no time), but she is very efficient and has her own routine. We tidy before she comes, that is the hardest part.
