Neighbour's teen letting dogs do their business on our property

We recently got a new set of neighbours and they have two chocolate labs. The family seem overall pretty nice and they've come over to borrow some stuff a couple of times without much fuss.

A few weeks ago I started noticing piles of dog poop in the front yard. Not on the periphery but actually on the lawn and up around the side. The image below pretty much shows what our house is like compared to the neighbours, for context. I had a look at the security footage and sure enough it's the new neighbours, specifically their teen boy (looks to be around 16-17). He walks the two dogs off leash and we're the first yard they pass. He lets them wander up all the way into the yard since they both pee on the flower bed we have (pretty much the same location as those plants up against the wooden part). They wander pretty far up and around the side as well, which is where I have found the poop. I've also found poop on the lawn. It's probably happened close to 10 times now.

The boy just lets the dogs wander up the lawn and watches them, and when they come back he walks off. Makes no attempt to call them. He even lets them wander onto the porch where they will have a sniff and pee up against the front door/wall.

Would it be unreasonable to camp by the door and approach him next time? Or call his parents to complain? I don't want to muddy the relationship with his family but it's getting to be quite annoying. We don't have dogs so I don't have dog poo bags, I've been using generic plastic bags but am fast running out.

Some of these responses 🤣🤣🤣

Just pop around and tell them what’s been happening and can they stop the dog walking over the garden & using it as a toilet, it’s not just a case of them not picking up the poo, but allowing the dog to pee all over your flowers as well.
Just pop the bloody dog on its lead unless it’s in a field or will walk by your side - it’s not difficult really is it. And there is no excuse not to clear up, ever 🤷🏼‍♀️

Flossflower · 04/01/2025 13:18

I would just have a word with the parents and tell them you don’t want a loose dog on your lawn at all. I am amazed at all the dog owners who walk along with their dogs and let them wander into other people’s gardens to wee or poo. Most will pick up poo but I just don’t want the dog there in the first place.

Fraaances · 04/01/2025 13:22

I would drop in and speak to his parents, let them know what you have on your camera and ask them to have a word with him about putting the dogs on a lead, take them for a proper damn walk and come and clean up the dog shit at your place.

JohnofWessex · 04/01/2025 13:23

Talk to the parents and if that doesnt get a result The Dog Warden & The Police.

I had a significant issue with a neighbours out of control dog when I decided that I was going to get it sorted - they had a baby I contacted Health Visitor, Social Services, Police and the Dog Warden all on the same day and that got the message over.

Thankfully the cat was killed. Are you for fucking real? How nasty, bet you're a peach in real life...

Have a day off.

It was another neighbour who was responsible (who equally hated said creature for repeatedly crapping over their lawn/garden).

🙄

Fraaances · 04/01/2025 14:41

His parents probably believe him when he says he’s taken the poor things for a walk too…

Exactly. I shouted at a man the other day whose dog was up in my flower beds, and he retorted that I am "crazy old bat"!!!

I love dogs but I don't want them urinating on my plants! Let alone soiling.

People don't really do this in real life do they, it's gotta be an online thing.

I'm not sure what the big issue is really, just tell them you've seen them on the camera and all them to make sure they don't let their dog go there or to pick it up. It's not a huge deal at all

Edited

I remember my DF doing this when I was young. He followed the owners down the road with it on a shovel and threw it over their hedge. It was before poo bags though.

Just collect it all on a shovel and ping it at them when they leave for work in the morning. You need to be strict and firm with these shitter types.

And accurate with your aim.

Gemmawemma9 · 04/01/2025 15:54

Why wouldn’t you just knock and tell the parents? I bet they’ll be mortified!

No, how about you have a day off from being a nasty piece of work. Doesn't matter who was responsible, your glee at the fact it was killed is disgusting -as is your general attitude.

Glee?

Talk about stretching the words to fit your narrative eh?

I said "thankfully" - I didnt say that I had a street party or have a disco or in any way overtly celebrated.

The only nastiness is from you with your deliberate twisting of my single word.

We had this it was disgusting we asked the neighbours repeatedly to stop letting their dogs shit all over our front garden and they laughed at us. We had to put fencing round one side to try and stop them but then saw they were opening our gate !!!! We decided to then pave the perimeter and washes the paving down daily with jeyes fluid and it seemed to repel the dogs and they wouldn’t come in the garden anymore (we saw online they don’t like the smell )

This. There are some absolute lunatics at large if some of these responses are any indication.

Itiswhysofew · 04/01/2025 21:54

You either go directly to their house and bring it to their attention, or you wait til you know he'll be walking the dogs and just pop out to tell him to stop his dogs from doing their business in your property.

They need to be told. It's grim and disrespectful.

chattyness · 08/01/2025 13:04

This happened to us before we fenced off the garden, there were 3 culprits that used to let their dogs off lead and they all used to pee and poop on the front lawn and around the side of the house. I just went out and spoke to them calmly asking them to please pick up after their dogs, better still take them somewhere else, they didn't like it but didn't reply or bother their arses, so the fence was the only thing that worked. We had to fence it off because we also used to get drunks taking a shortcut round there and though the back garden at the weekend and they would pee up the side of the house and somtimes vomit as well 😣

CheekyRaven · 08/01/2025 18:57

As him to stop. If it persists, contact the parents. He prepared to show video footage.

Navyontop · 09/01/2025 15:29

Just knock on their door and politely explain to them what’s happening, teenagers are not very self aware or thoughtful.
They’ll most likely be mortified and put a stop to it. I don’t understand why this is not your first thought/reaction.
