Please calm me down

Hi all
Staying in an Airbnb with my parents tonight. My bathroom clearly hasn't been cleaned for a few weeks and I can tell. There's gunk in the sink, hair and wee on the toilet seat, the bottom of the toilet is a greeny brown color and hasn't been bleached, hair and soap scum in the shower. The shower drain is full of hair and a couple dead spiders.

Im not good at staying overnight at places but this has made me super uncomfortable and like nothings clean if they haven't even bothered to do the toilet.

Theres also no duvet cover on the bed and I've just pulled a random sheet out the cupboard to put under it.

Please someone calm me down I need to take my makeup off but I feel like everything's going to get contaminated with dirt. I'm on the verge of tears

Is it too late to get a taxi to a supermarket for some bin bags, sheets and a pillow? Also gloves antibacterial spray and kitchen towel. No way I would be laying down on anything that came with the flat. As for the shower, that's definitely not being used. Top and tail all day long.

I think your reaction to filth is normal.

My skin is crawling in sympathy with you. Other people's shed skin and hair is just disgusting.

Make sure you text the owner right away.

It sounds like their cleaner didn’t turn up.

I'm an Airbnb host (a good one!) and I agree that what you describe is completely unacceptable. If you call customer services, they will help and you'll likely be fully refunded. +44 203 318 1111

But I have to say, you should take greater care when choosing a listing. Read the reviews, look at the cleanliness ratings, as I can't imagine the place you're staying at has had five star reviews! ideally book only with a host who's a superhost (which is a guarantee of consistent good performance).

I've got the dog in bed with me to introduce some familiar dirt and that's helped a bit lol.

You're complaining about how dirty the place is and needing to cover the pillow but you have your dog in that bed?? 😂

It is disgusting, but it shouldn't be making you as anxious as it it. There are two separate issues here. One needs to be sorted by Air BnB, and the other I suggest you see your GP about. I have an anxiety disorder and I have wild thoughts about what other people see as really small things - going on meds and seeing my GP was an absolute life saver.

Try to remember there will be much worse rooms you have slept in and you were fine. Just don't get out a UV light...

Hang on your have a dog in your bed ... Surely that dog has dirt from everywhere in it including street muck???

You've allowed your dog in a bed that other people are going to sleep in? That's disgusting and unfair on future guests. You've already said there's no duvet cover. The dirt from the dog's bum and paws will be all over that bed.

That is a week or so at least of build up definitely hasn’t been cleaned or duvets etc being replaced you need to contact them

Sorry, you had my sympathy until you said you had the dog in bed. Your dog will be spreading dirt from the street, ie human and animal vomit, faeces, and billions of bacteria from its mouth and bum. A few soapy hairs in the shower will be pristine compared to that.
