Criminal Friends!

CanWeGoForAWalk · 02/01/2025 18:53

Hello

(Name changed)

My Husbands best friend has recently been released from prison, and I am very concerned about the amount of time they are spending together. I have taken into consideration that they are childhood friends and they haven’t seen one another for a while, but the guy in question is not the kind of company anyone would want to keep.

The majority of his friends are criminals or currently in prison, I don’t understand who would want to keep friends like that.

Now, I believe my Husband is involving himself in illegal activities, which he doesn’t need to be, because last year was a great year for him financially.

I have tried to speak to him about the situation, and he has made me feel like I am in the wrong.

Please bear in mind that we have three children together, and I’m not used to being home alone with them.

Is it just me or AIBU?

@CanWeGoForAWalk sorry but if all his friends are criminals then you can bet your life that he will have been hanging around the edges of criminality for a long time!! you need to get him away from them.

Edited

Yes that’s what I intend to do, whatever the friend in question does my husband has always stuck by him, their friendship is extremely genuine and the loyalty has always been there, but he is NOT good for my husband.

I have spoken to my mother in law about the whole situation and she says that he wouldn’t be so stupid, but she agrees that he is not good for my husband, she personally has never liked him, she told me that people would tell their children not to be friends with him, because he is trouble and always has been trouble.

Not sure what to say re your situation... I'd have to seriously think about staying with him if I were you.

I think your posts were hidden earlier because the word Cr.y. p.to gets auto blocked, and MN will review and release of they think it's genuine.... I think!

JaniceBattersby · 02/01/2025 19:52

Oh come on. He did not ‘get lucky with cyprytor’ (sp so post doesn’t get blocked) It’ll be cocaine. I’d bet my bottom dollar on it. Ask to see his bank statement.

JessicafelloffTheKnappett · 02/01/2025 19:56

I think you're most likely right Janice, sadly for OP 😔

Hi.

He got very lucky with Crypto last year, in which he made over 7 figures, he also has a full time job working with his Dad.

Oh. Crime proceeds perhaps?

Oh my goodness, it happened again.

I said that I’ve seen his C wallet, the money is pretty much legal.

Pretty much? So which bit is a little bit illegal then?

Wow, he was indeed lucky.

CanWeGoForAWalk · 02/01/2025 20:05

So what do you suggest I do now?

He is aware that I’m not happy with him, but doesn’t seem to care.

erihskreb · 02/01/2025 20:06

The main use case for crypt o is money laundering so that would make me even more suspicious

Tell him you will leave unless the crime and hanging around with criminals stops, and make sure your own finances are spotless

wriggleigglepiggle · 02/01/2025 20:06

Money laundering ?

Beautifulweeds · 02/01/2025 20:08

Sounds like he's got himself out from the world he lived in and met up from said old friend. They've reminisced, have a connection and he's been sucked back into the old part of himself. Did he look up this guy, did he look out for him etc, have a special bond?

Your DH needs to say yes I would have done that but respect my new life. We can still be friends buy I won't be joining you in this.

Talking from experience, draw a line and don't cross! Remind him of how much he has to lose. Xx

pretty much? you married a low level crook and you were happy with that, but now he's playing with the big boys and its got you worried.

don't play with fire if you don't want to get burnt

JaniceBattersby · 02/01/2025 20:12

C is now the number one way in which criminals transfer money to one another. I was in a POCA hearing today where the benefit to the drug dealer was £1.6m and the recoverable amount was £1. It was all hidden in C

Your DH needs to draw the line between friendship and being led by him. When others have these opinions there are usually good reasons. Keep reminding him of this, to keep as casual and away from home. Xx

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 02/01/2025 20:12

I work in the justice system and no one ever says criminals it's a weird thing to say. Your husband has his own move and if you don't trust him but to commit crime you've got a bigger problem than his friends. FWIW there are also lots of people who have committed offences who go on to have completely.pro social lives, some even end up working in the criminal justice system

ChristmasKelpie · 02/01/2025 20:13

If you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen. Was it a " oh look at me , my future husband is a bad lad and is in with the hard crowd" kind of thing ? Well you married him so why is it a problem now ?

Vaxtable · 02/01/2025 20:13

His luck with C sounds like money laundering to me. And he is choosing to see friends whoare criminals rather than walking away which is what any sensible person with wife and kids and is in a legitimate business would do. Especially if all his friends are crims

sorry he’s doing something illegal, hence not wanting to give up friendships

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 02/01/2025 20:14

Also if you think your husband got lucky in crypto last year, you're very naive

I doubt he made his money last year in the way you think

But you married and had children with a man with lifelong criminal involvements and criminal connections. That's way harder to understand, surely?
