Microblading

I'm thinking of booking microblading, does anyone recommend this or really regret having it done? I've been considering it for a while now after my eyebrows have been getting thinner and thinner. Or should i just keep filling them in with brow pencil?! Pic below of brows with make up. Help!

Microblading

My eyebrows are naturally very thin and they are getting lighter with age. I’ve been looking into brow lamination as a softer alternative to microblading.

CreepyDibillo · 02/01/2025 16:52

Microblading was the single best thing I ever did for my face, absolutely transformed it. Make sure you do your research though and find the very best practitioner you can, some of them do an awful job where they fade pink/brown.
Finally, if you have oily skin, they brows won't last as long on you, they will fade more quickly.

catatonique · 02/01/2025 16:52

I had it done and it was okay, but I don’t think it was worth the money.

90yomakeuproom · 02/01/2025 16:53

Try permanent make up, powder brows. It's so much better. It's more like shading rather than cuts with ink in.

Lamination doesn't last long and will only work if you have enough hairs to start with.

I have had mine done and am so glad I did. My brows were a victim of the over plucking trend of the early 00s, and they never grew back (or mor accurately, one of them won’t grow back and who wants lopsided brows?!).
I get machine stroke brows done by a semi-permanent artist. I have had them for 6 years and had to have them topped up 3 times (so done 4 times including the first lot) and I have only just had them done so should get another 18 months before they need doing again. It isn’t just a one and done forever situation.
I would make sure you find someone whose work you like, and who has plenty of examples of previous clients. Be clear about what you want, but also be prepared to listen to them. I wanted to go slightly darker and I am glad I listened to the artist when she recommended a lighter shade than I picked.

If you put roughly what area you are you might get some recommendations? There are lots of previous eyebrow threads in style and beauty so you might get some information there.
I personally wouldn't because I would be worried about hating them, I also see ppl with pinky red eyebrows where their bodies reject/break down the ink.
I think it's a huge decision because it's your face

Itsallsostressful · 02/01/2025 17:10

I got mine down and it was life changing ! Just a wee tidy up wax and tint now and again and I'm good to go 👍

Morello339 · 02/01/2025 17:18

I love my microblading. I, too, was a victim of the overplucking in the 90s.

What I hate is when people say they had bad microblading, and when you look, it is clearly not microblading. It is powder brows or ombre brows, which are not the same.
Microblading is hair like strokes.

Just be sure on exactly what you want.

Spiderysummer · 02/01/2025 17:22

I had combination brows done as mine had become very sparse. I wanted natural looking and that's what I got. I looked at lots of photos of the work done before booking an appointment. Best money I've spent, it makes me look so much better!

Hotflushesandchilblains · 02/01/2025 17:27

A friend of mine had them done - they were a little scary/dark/scouse brow looking at the start, but they have faded down beautifully and made such a difference - before her eyebrows were virtually non existant!

Anon1983678 · 02/01/2025 17:29

Thanks for all the replies, I think combination or powder brows would be best for my oily skin. I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to go for it tho, just coz its your face! I'm also worried about them fading to a strange colour as ive read it can go grey/blue or pink. I hate drawing them on every day tho and worrying if they are still there!

I agree with this. Expensive, hurt like a fucker and the faff of not getting them wet for 2 weeks after both the initial application and then the top up was a royal pain in the arse.

Funkyslippers · 02/01/2025 17:50

I had mine done 18 months ago and they're still going strong. I had virtually no brows before & spent ages each morning trying to colour them, probably very poorly! It hurts a little but is pretty quick. Look for recommendations but I'd definitely say go for it

SnippySnappy · 02/01/2025 17:55

For me, microblading was painful and ended up being patchy even with 2 top ups.
The powder brows (nano brows?) - with an actual tattoo needle - are SO much better. I've had mine done for years now and they've enhanced my eyes and face really nicely. I could never pencil them on nicely, I could only ever follow the (poor) shape of my natural brow. So, I definitely recommend!

CharlotteCChapel · 02/01/2025 18:18

Have a look for photos of faded eyebrows. They are supposed to temporary but many are left with red or yellow skin where the original microblading is. Just draw them in if you're desperate.

I have very little body hair including sparce eyebrows. I feel really weird when I pencil them rm in as it's not me. I only doing it when I go out out as I read that eyebrows frame the face and I had an eyebrow pencil in a beauty box and didn't want to waste it.

catatonique · 02/01/2025 18:40

Oh, I don’t think I was very scrupulous about not getting them wet and all that stuff. And the pain was kind of average. I just think the money is better spent on a shape and tint.

kiwiane · 02/01/2025 19:05

I wouldn’t - you have lovely eyebrows.

Jolietta · 02/01/2025 19:09

Your eyebrows are lovely.

I dye mine at home and the dye picks up all the down like hairs that are almost invisible and my brows look fuller.

I did this but then started losing my eyebrows! What they don’t tell you is lamination is very damaging

DontshootmyRaptors · 02/01/2025 20:15

Isn’t it’s funny how plucked eyebrows sometimes dont grow back, but unwanted body hair just keeps on no matter how much plucking or waxing. Sigh…

Look at by ellie brow gel. It looks exactly like lamination but won't damage the hairs and quite quick to do. This only works if you have some hair though obviously.

Elsvieta · 05/01/2025 18:38

I had it about ten years ago and it looked good for about 18 months then faded. Apparently if you get it done too many times it can lead to a sort of spreading stain under the skin which will then have to be removed like tattoos are, so that put me off doing it again and I just learned to get good with an eyebrow pencil. I think it was a piece by Hannah Betts but can't find it now - said she spent years covering the stain with makeup before spending a fortune to get it removed.

Yorkshiregal1 · 05/01/2025 18:51

I got hyper realism eyebrow tattoos done recently and they are great. Very natural. I will need a top up (£200) every year. If you're in London or newcastle I would recommend Jo Little.
