I do. Just occurred to me that others might do too. I find it really hydrates me more than water

I do a daily Liquid IV drink when on holiday, as I really struggle to keep my fluids up at the best of times, and am even worse on holiday. I only use them on holidays though. I wouldn't do it every day.

comedycentral · 02/01/2025 15:05

How does it help? I'm not sure I've had it before. What are the benefits?

DecayingRelic · 02/01/2025 15:05

I have one for hangovers and when I get shits, i have IBS

KerryBlues · 02/01/2025 15:07

No. You really shouldn't, unless you're actually dehydrated (instead of just thirsty) and your electrolytes are out of whack.

jeaux90 · 02/01/2025 15:18

I use them a lot, for hangovers or when I've had a bad stomach upset.

Dramatic · 02/01/2025 15:24

No, I thought it wasn't recommended unless you're dehydrated from illness?

ComtesseDeSpair · 02/01/2025 15:36

You really shouldn’t, and it says as much in the instruction leaflet. It puts your electrolytes out of whack unless you’re losing a lot of fluids through diarrhea and vomiting and can result in toxicity. You can, however, drink similar supplements like Phizz everyday as they’re designed as a vitamin and salts balancer for people who do moderate athletic activity. Give that a try, instead.

Wittow · 02/01/2025 15:47

There's a shortage of dioralyte at the moment, is that down to your unnecessary consumption??! 😆

Why do you feel dehydrated do you think?

mindutopia · 02/01/2025 15:57

I’ve actually never had one in my life and I’m mid 40s now.

My guess is, if you drink them that regularly, your electrolytes are quite out of whack, hence craving them. It’s the only way your body can maintain its equilibrium. If it’s no more than 1 a day, you can probably slowly swap out for water, but if more than that, you might need to do it under medical supervision. Throwing your salts totally off suddenly can be very dangerous.

HellofromJohnCraven · 02/01/2025 15:58

I don't but do have fizzzz tablets that I add to water. Maybe half a tablet to a pint of water. I have a glass eack afternoon. My headaches have improved and the number of painkillers I take have reduced.

Larryimonducktales · 02/01/2025 16:04

I sometimes use those hydration tablets because they aren't quite as awful, and I drink lucozade sport quite often.

I have lower limb dystonia that gets worse if I'm dehydrated. I'm glad you posted this because it's been a nightmare over Christmas but now I think about it I've not made much effort to stay hydrated while I've been off work.

Oneearringlost · 02/01/2025 16:07

What do you mean, " it hydrates" you more than water?

DorianMeile · 02/01/2025 16:18

You really shouldn't do this. Too many electrolytes/sodium can damage your heart and kidneys and can give you high blood pressure. It's not meant for daily use.

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 02/01/2025 16:20

I think you should stop doing that.

BadgerInDungarees · 02/01/2025 16:20

I have those dissolvable electrolyte tablets daily. I have PoTS and my consultant recommended it.

bellsend · 02/01/2025 17:09

I have one if I’ve been drinking to avoid a hangover.

I wouldn’t take them everyday though, not a good idea. I do think they brought out a fizzy daily tablet type thing recently that you can use every day.

Cherrysoup · 02/01/2025 17:13

I think it’s recommended post gastric surgery when you have issues consuming enough water and if you’ve had d&v. Drinking 2 litres of water a day is probably more sensible. Makes me pee a lot, tho!

romdowa · 02/01/2025 17:15

I do but it's because I've pots and low blood pressure and it really helps my low blood pressure.

If you're peeing a lot then you are drinking more than your body needs! We get a lot of fluid from food. Well people doing normal activities in normal weather are unlikely to get dehydrated.

Menopause isn’t helping, I have to go during the night even if I haven’t drunk loads.

DH was ill last year and had dioralytes. I read the blurb on the box and they seemed like a good idea for me too (vitamins, helps you recover after exercise, etc). Went for a dental checkup after a few months and to my horror, and the dentist's surprise, was told I had three holes in my teeth. She asked me about any changes in my diet. I came home and looked at the ingredients - sixty per cent sugar!! And I'd been sipping it all day long. What a rip off! Better to have a balanced diet with lots of fruit & veg.

H0TDAY · 03/01/2025 09:07

60% sugar but that's less than a quarter of a teaspoon, no? Nothing like other soft drinks

H0TDAY · 03/01/2025 09:08

But thanks for the replies. I think I'll try and keep it to one a day or try the tablets that are suitable for daily consumption
