Where can you get the morning after pill on New Years Day?

The condom has split, happily married but really do NOT want another baby. What on earth can I do? I’m absolutely devastated 😢 hormonal contraception gave me lumps on my breast, copper coil gave me such heavy periods I leaked at least one day every month so couldn’t leave the house. Have relied on condoms and they have been fine until tonight. I cannot have another baby, my mental health was so low after DS I can’t do it again. Where can I get a MAP in Derby on New Year’s Day?

Just Google duty chemists in your area.

XmasSocks · 01/01/2025 02:05

Google chemists open new years day

SnugNightsss · 01/01/2025 02:06

You can order it online as well. It can be taken within 72 hours I think.

Nerdlings · 01/01/2025 02:07

As pp’s say Google OOH pharmacy , or call 111 if you’re still stuck

Seaweed42 · 01/01/2025 02:08

The Boots pharmacy might open later on like 11am if you have one near you.

hiddeninplainsite · 01/01/2025 02:08

It looks like Derwent Pharmacy is open from 2pm to 4pm. Good luck!

26A North Street

Tesco pharmacy

Fmlright · 01/01/2025 02:16

Thank you all, the ones I had looked at said different times would be available on New Year’s Day but didn’t state what the times were. I don’t know how you all found specifics but thank you!

It can be difficult to find things when you're understandably panicking. I'm just glad you have the information you need now, and I hope it works out for you, OP.

Just in case you didn’t know if you go to a pharmacy without a 111 referral you’ll have to pay for the MAP. I’m sure prices differ but there’s two choices at my pharmacy, one that’s £15ish and one that’s £30ish. Hope you get it sorted.

Cluckycluck · 01/01/2025 06:37

Just so you know the morning after pill works by delaying ovulation so if you have already ovulated in the last 5 days it won't help. Pharmacys don't always tell you this.

The most effective emergency contraception is the copper coil which is effective during ovulation.

Lurkingandlearning · 01/01/2025 07:52

You’ve probably already thought of this, but once you’ve sorted yourself out this time go and get another one (perhaps at a different pharmacy) and keep it in the cupboard just in case it happens again. It’ll save a lot of angst

elfshenanigans · 01/01/2025 08:01

my understanding is that they only stop ovulation. If you have ovulated already you may be better off with the coil.

Jassummer · 01/01/2025 08:13

If you are near a walk in centre (minor injuries unit) they can issue you it there. I’ve had to do this before as the one and only time I needed it fell at an awkward time. I was in and out very quickly as I just had to tell the receptionist what I needed and it was dealt with in the triage room. They were very understanding and kind

ClassicStripe · 01/01/2025 09:07

Interesting that people have suggested the coil? Assuming that would still have to be in 72hr time period? It’s a 12 week wait here to even have a coil checked let alone fitted.

PokerFriedDips · 01/01/2025 09:12

Call 111 - they can direct you to the nost appropriate service that will be open today. Some pharmacies are able to give it and there will be a pharmacy near you opem today but not all.

Cheaper than a baby, tho'!

DeathMetalMum · 01/01/2025 09:17

I'd ring before you go just to check the pharmacy has it in stock.

To pp who said to keep one at home. Most of the services you take the pill whilst in the pharmacy. As the pharmacist will counsel on side effects/ what happens if you vomit within next 24 hours etc.

5 days - family planning clinic

VickyEadieofThigh · 01/01/2025 09:20

I hope you get it sorted promptly so you can stop worrying, OP.

I assume you've had the talks with DH about vasectomy. I'd be re-opening those talks today if I were you.

OurDreamLife · 01/01/2025 09:21

Boots is probably open. Most supermarkets are and they have pharmacies.

You can even buy it from Superdrug online doctor and click and collect.
