To drink tonight after filling today?

Probably a really stupid question but posting in AIBU for quick answers hopefully.

Had a filling today - back molar partially crumbled just before Christmas. No pain at all. Couldn't get appt until this morning so put some of that temporary filling stuff over it just to protect it over Christmas.

Saw dentist today and he said I'd done such a good job with the temporary filling stuff that he was going to need to numb me with an injection to remover the temporary filling. He said if I hadn't used it he wouldn't have needed to numb me as it just needed cleaning and building back up but it was good I had used it to keep it clean and protected etc.

Anyway. Filling all done and just waiting for numbness to wear off. As I left the appt I asked him how long before I could eat drink etc and he said as soon as the numbness had gone for safety but the filling was already hardened and ready to go so to basically crack on as normal. As I left he wished me happy new year and said to have a good night. He didn't say anything about drinking alcohol and I completely forgot to ask as whilst I've had fillings in the past they've never been on days where I'm planning on drinking as I don't drink during the week etc.

I am going to a NYE party tonight and whilst I'm not planning on getting hammered I was planning on having a few drinks. I've googled it and the nhs advice is not to drink for 24hrs after a dental procedure - but I've only had a very basic filling no root canal or anything with some numbness. Is it safe to drink?
Sorry this is so long!!

I wouldn’t let that stop me having a few drinks! 🍸

You’re safe to drink as you normally would

It's fine.

I work in dentistry. It’s totally fine. They only tell you to avoid eating (or drinking hot things) if you’re numb as you won’t be able to tell if you burn yourself or bite into your lip etc. Otherwise you can crack on as normal.

So go and enjoy yourself!

I'm a dentist. Only precaution is nothing hot until the LA subsides due to risk of burning your mouth. You're fine to have as much as you like!
