New year at home?

What12345 · 31/12/2024 10:46

Is it wrong to want to spend new year at home?

I have never been a huge fan of new year but there are always party invites. Why do I feel I need to people please and attend and drink way too much when I'd actually really enjoy a bath and one of my very few days off work hangover free?

Please persuade me I'm not being grumpy and can just enjoy a day off work.

I give you permission to stay at home and enjoy your day off as you please 🥂

I will also be at home this nye. I will spend it in my own company, probably having a normal dinner and an earlyish night!

Rainbowdottie · 31/12/2024 10:49

It's your life, your NYE, do what you want. I think as long as you're being honest and not let someone down, say no from the start then why not?

Personally I think NYE is overrated and silly expensive. That's not me being miserable, I'd just rather spend my money elsewhere later on in the month/year. I think we're conditioned to believe it's a big night with everyone we know being out and about...when in reality lots of people are at home, doing very ordinary things.

Ablondiebutagoody · 31/12/2024 11:05

That's pretty much my plan. Stay at home, cook a nice meal, see in the New Year, let off a few fireworks then sleep well and enjoy the day tomorrow because it's back to work soon. But I am old.

FatOaf · 31/12/2024 11:05

The last time I went out on new year's eve was about 30 years ago. I don't like noise and I hate being around drunk people, so being anywhere other than my own house on new year's eve is undesirable.

Toomanysquishmallows · 31/12/2024 11:08

We are staying in , unfortunately I don’t know anyone having a party .

What12345 · 31/12/2024 11:11

Thanks everyone, it's good to know someone has given me permission. Nice home cooked dinner and chill sounds amazing, my ideal that 👌

I haven't been out for New Year in about 15 years.

SpanThatWorld · 31/12/2024 11:42

I went to a friend's in 2018
I went to my dad's in 2001

Other than that, been tucked up in my own home since about 1994

We will venture as far as my parents next door to take in the bells (probably in PJ's).
I have wonderful memories of Hogmanay gatherings when I was young, all the family (about 20 of us)would come together for a buffet supper, watch some tv, play some games before the bells, this moved to nights out in the pubs, all crazy and noisy as I got older. Nowadays I love a quiet cosy end to the year. Hot bath, clean PJ's and snuggled up in front of the fire for the most part!

TheSandgroper · 31/12/2024 11:50

We will still wake at about 5 (strong body clocks) so it’s early to bed here, too.

GiddyRobin · 31/12/2024 12:07

We're throwing a party, but the main reason for that (aside from socialising and fun) is because I also hate going out on NYE. I want to be able to collapse into bed when it's over without travel, eat the food we've prepared without worry (coeliac, so everything is GF), and just generally do what I please. I haven't been out on NYE in yonks, and I hated it when I did!

DivineHour · 31/12/2024 12:08

They’re invitations, not summonses. I’ve turned down three this year, not because I don’t enjoy seeing people, but because I’m leaving for the airport for a few days away at 6 am. But you can turn down invitations for any reason. Just don’t do the Mn thing of accepting them because you feel you’re supposed to, all the while simmering with resentment, and then pulling out at the last minute with some trivial excuses while feeling guilty.

FuckItItsFine · 31/12/2024 12:08

I haven’t been out for Hogmanay in years. It’s all about the steak pie on New Year’s Day for me.

Hope you enjoy the night, I'm doing similar- a lovely meal, some wine and relax for the nightWine

lemonyellows · 31/12/2024 18:21

We are staying in. Having a nice meal, watching films until midnight (if I last that long!!)

Do it anyway you want to.

Zanatdy · 31/12/2024 18:24

I have an invite out and I was going to pop out for 2hrs but dog going crazy already with fireworks so won’t bother (rather watch my ipad in bed anyway)

AlwaysGinPlease · 31/12/2024 18:28

Stay home!

We are staying in. We had a busy Christmas then we went away for four days straight after. Lots of eating out and sightseeing etc and tbh, I'm peopled out. We were invited to a party but declined. Fire going, snuggled up with all the animals with the tree lights twinkling away , nice food and cheesy tv. Perfect!

Nope, you're all good! Have a nice time.

Chester23 · 31/12/2024 18:32

I'll be home alone with the cat 😂 first one in 13 years on my own but I'm content with that. Chilled night, watch some tv, have a drink.
