Stopping to let child pee in fast lane of m25.

Admittedly it was in slow moving traffic but this idiot allowed its child to get out of car and pee against the concrete blocks that separate the two sections of the M25 near Dartford Tunnel. When it had finished, the child went to run to the passenger side but the parent, whom remained in the car, perhaps fearing for it`s safety, called the child to get in her side.

Shock Shock Shock

bergentulip · 02/05/2008 18:47

slow moving traffic- how slow? Sounds like stationery (not the office supplies type!) if the child could get out and go for a wee,......
In which case, let them off huh? If a child has to go, they have to go, and if you are stuck in a car on the M25 for God knows how long,..... then, well, whatever.

I wouldn't turf my kid out to wee on the M25 on his own, but that's me.... I might well edge my way over to the hard shoulder though and get out with him in a 'wee emergency'.

I know I'll get flamed now.

chamaeleon · 02/05/2008 18:48

i would have been tempted to call police and let them go round for a chat

NotABanana · 02/05/2008 18:48

completely stupid to allow this.

Hard shoulder is completely different from the fast lane though.

Blu · 02/05/2008 18:54

DS has weed in a plastic drink bottle, and also on a newspaper in the car.

Actually DP has weed in a drink bottle, too.

LyraSilvertongue · 02/05/2008 18:55

If the traffic wasn't moving at all I'd have done the same rather than let the child wet themselves. But I would have got out with him/her.

roquefort · 02/05/2008 18:58

Wouldn't even stop on hard shoulder unless traffic absolutely stationary. Would rather they peed in the car if they could not make the next junction.

shinyshoes · 02/05/2008 19:01

We were in this position a couple of weeks ago on the way back from Weston-Super-Mare, we were stationary though for AGES, I let him out we were on the left hand lane. We hadnt moved for about 10 minutes so I let him out and he went. we were about 20 miles from the next services too.

LyraSilvertongue · 02/05/2008 19:03

Those portable potties with the absorbent pad in the bag are perfect for such situations.

Maybe an empty 2ltr coke bottle then?

schmoopoo · 02/05/2008 19:33

how old was the child. Willy out window time

suzi2 · 02/05/2008 19:35

Even if the traffic was stationary, there is still a risk from oncoming traffic travelling at normal speeds at the other side of the barrier. If the traffic was stationary, the hard shoulder isn't even safe as idiots often speed up the hard shoulder to avoid long queues. If the traffic was moving at all, stopping on the motorway in any way is madness.

Basically, the only way I would do it would be in the outside (fast) lane when stationary when the traffic in the other direction was also at a standstill.

MMJ, I can't believe you have stopped on the hard shoulder to let a child pee. Was this in normal traffic? That's insane? Google it and you'll realise just how dangerous it is.

Porta potties are OK, but you can makeshift the bad with a carrier bag without holes and some cheap (17p for 10) sanitary towels. A few of them should soak up most of anyones wee. Failing that, the bag should hold well enough before you can get to a bin.

LyraSilvertongue · 02/05/2008 19:37

Or empty it on the road

PotPourri · 02/05/2008 19:44

Erm, nooooo. That is not an ok thing to do. Just posted on another thread a second ago saying I think it is acceptable to let toddler/small child to wee on the street. But a motorway - nooooo way! It is so dangerous, and risking wet pants and seat is definately preferable to taking the risk of being killed!

hifi · 02/05/2008 19:53

i would rather them do it on the seat than that!

ivykaty44 · 02/05/2008 20:00

Never underestimate the stupidity of some people

fym · 02/05/2008 20:03

Never stop on the motorway for a wee - it's dangerous! Better a wet seat than a dead child IMHO

I made DS1 pee in a Fruit Shoot botttle in the car once - yes you heard right it was a Fruit Shoot! DH bought them!

Wouldn't stop on the motorway!

Oblomov · 03/05/2008 09:48

I pulled over onto the M25 hardshoulder. We had been stationary for more than 10 minutes. Thus, it took over 5 minutes, before I was able to get onto the hard shoulder. I got out, got ds out. He was 3. Back in, took about 5-10 minutes to get back out of the hard shoulder, and that was the very car that had always been behind me, letting me out immediately.
I know its not good. But even in hindsight, I didn't think it was that bad.

Greyriverside · 03/05/2008 09:48

They were parked. Makes no difference if parked on the motorway or in a side street. If they had beem moving the OP wouldn't have seen all of that.

It's safer than the hard shoulder which apparently is now ok to drive on normally.
