To think I'm the only person who gets this itchiness?

I get these itchy spots. They're in very precise locations (kind of down the centre of face, hands, legs...). I only get them sometimes but often enough. Tonight I'm lying awake because they're driving me insane. Inside of my mouth, outside of my face, back of knees, back of hands, tops of feet... Arrrrrrgh!
Anyone else?
Unreasonable - You're not alone I get this too, or
Not unreasonable - Nope, just you you weirdo, get help

How old are you? My skin is much more itchy since reaching peri/menopause. Some nights I’m awake ages as I “chase the itch@. It just seems as soon as I itch one place, I need to itch another!

Alliscalmallisnotbright · 30/12/2024 22:23

Get your liver function checked.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/12/2024 22:25

I don’t get that but I’ve had this horrible itchy skin condition on my feet all my life. Doesn’t sound like a big deal but it really limits my sleep and is a huge problem.

I am under the hospital for it but they never give me enough of the medication I need to last between appointments.

Kaleidoscopic101 · 30/12/2024 22:26

I voted YANBU but I know people who do have this certainly on at least a few of the locations mentioned...seems to come and go...stress related or seasonal. Worth getting it checked out for sure

coralsky · 30/12/2024 22:30

I've heard weird itching is a peri symptom. Sounds legit to me as the last couple of years I occasionally get crazy itchy feet (largely on the inside/ arch) in bed.

Itiswhysofew · 30/12/2024 22:31

I don't have that. I wonder if it's nerve related?

When I get a tiny cut or a cat scratch on my hands or wrists, I get this severe tickling sensation that crawls around my arm. It is excruciating. I'm unable to locate the itchy/tickly spot because it constantly moves.

I wonder if it's nerve damage?

Itchykneesanshee · 30/12/2024 22:32

Yes I'm reaching the beginnings of peri but have had this for years, last liver function test was good, there's not actually anything on the skin it's like it's psychological. Currently the corners of my mouth are taking top spot. The areas are precise and symmetrical...

This is me. I'm perimenopausal and it's a big side effect 😭

SweetDeee · 30/12/2024 22:33

My legs (calves and shins) get so bloody itchy every damn night.

Drives me insane.

BobTheBobcatsBob · 30/12/2024 22:37

I know what you mean and I get this. I've had it for years, probably since childhood. I can get it on the top of my foot, and sometimes on the underneath, on my wrist where the thumb meets the wrist, behind my knee, my forehead. It lasts for a while (no longer than a day, usually a few hours) for no reason at all and then I'll not have it again for weeks, if not months. I've had tests on my liver recently for something else and that's fine. So I don't know. I just assume it's something that everyone experiences at times and is caused by something irritating my skin.

Goinggreymammy · 30/12/2024 22:41

I get random parts of my body itching terribly at different times. I'm not imagining it as sometimes hives appear. The patches aren't symmetrical though. This has been going on since 2019. I remember the first one... a patch near my ankle. I've had tests for allergies and full MOT more recently to check hormone levels/cancer markers/pre-menopause. All fine.
The only thing that helps the itching is I take an antihistamine every second day. Otherwise I'd be like a demented person scratching. It's really distracting and stressful so I feel for you.

Hankunamatata · 30/12/2024 22:43

I take fexofenidine to stop itching.

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 30/12/2024 22:44

You are not alone.

My dd gets this. she is 11 so definitely not menopausal!

@Itchykneesanshee have you ever suffered with eczema at all?

Itchykneesanshee · 30/12/2024 22:50

@BobTheBobcatsBob yes! Usually lasts a couple of hours ish. And probably had it since childhood too.
It's so weird! I mean I'm licking the exact spot on the palm of my hand while resting my foot on the exact spot on the back of my knee... Luckily I have an understanding partner, although I wish he was here tonight to distract me 😂

Nope, no eczema

I only get that when I've been in the bath or shower too long and whatever products I've used have irritated my feet.

I find a razor works really well for itching - obviously not the inside of your mouth 😂but instant relief for back of hands, legs and top of feet without any of the downsides of actually scratching

ChristmasIsCancelled2024 · 30/12/2024 23:14

OP I don’t have itching apart from one place on my side (since menopause) but I have since childhood had random stabbing pains that turn up in the same spot, sometimes for days or months or often years. It’s entirely neurological, I have no physical answer for them. Could yours be similar?

VegTrug · 30/12/2024 23:47

Are you prescribed any opiates, OP?

VegTrug · 30/12/2024 23:49

Hankunamatata · 30/12/2024 22:43

I take fexofenidine to stop itching.

Does this make you drowsy at all, may I ask?

No. Been on it for years, prescribed by immunologist for itching.

statetrooperstacey · 31/12/2024 13:04

I get this, I use tools, a fork or for larger areas/ when the fork isn't sufficient a metal pasta server. And yes it lasts a couple of hours ,, day or so.

zingally · 31/12/2024 14:50

I get random hives pop up in the evenings all the time. 9 times out of 10 on my thighs or upper arms.
It improved a lot though, when I started taking a daily antihistamine. If I stop taking them for whatever reason, it takes a couple of days, but then the hives start back up again.
