To think not paying your friends back quickly is poor form?

Went on a week away with some friends. They paid us late for the cottage. Slightly annoying but no biggie.

On the last day of the holiday we put lunch on our card and got tickets to an excursion. So the friends owe us about £100. We went on holiday the last week of November. They have text twice to say they’d pay us back the next day and have not done it.

AIBU to think it’s poor form? I suspect they’ve over stretched themselves as they live a very flash lifestyle.

End of the month - so looks like we’ve got another couple of weeks to wait

I got a text from a friend on Monday reminding me that I owed her £45 for our Christmas meal out. I was mortified, no excuse, I paid her immediately, I text her how sorry I was. Sometimes if I don't do things straight away I forget! So next time we go out I will make sure I pick up the tab if we are splitting the bill after. Smile

Keep at them OP. And never ever make plans with them that involve you paying and them refunding you again.

gremi · 15/01/2025 07:44

Thing is we had a great time with them! But this leaves a bitter taste

I would be a little firmer. Tell them you NEED the money as your credit card bill is here an you don't want to have to pay interest on the £100 they owe. If they really don't have it until payday, they will offer to pay the interest.- or, they'll pay you back now. Ridiculous chasing people for £100. Don't pay again. Cash is King!

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 15/01/2025 08:04

Don't pay for anything again for them. Terrible.

gremi · 17/01/2025 19:47

Still no sign of the money 😀Shall I keep updatibg until they cough up?

Ring them NOW and ask why they haven't paid you back yet? Put them on the spot.

0psiedasiy · 17/01/2025 19:52

Don’t let them get away with not paying. Or let it go, find new friends and the next time just say no thanks we can afford to fund two others.

poemsandwine · 17/01/2025 19:54

Call them. They're taking the absolute piss.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/01/2025 20:31

Yes it’s rude

I would text and say along the lines , can you check your bank and see if payment has left your account as still isn’t in mine

giving them a free card to say - oh no it hasn’t. Sorry. Will send now
etx

or ask what date are they paying it back as you don’t want your direct debits to bounce and have to occur fees

gremi · 18/01/2025 10:52

I sent another reminder to which they said “sending it after dinner!”

Nothing came by 9pm so I sent another text which felt a bit rude/blunt to friends which said “still waiting for it :)”

OP posts:
gremi · 18/01/2025 10:53

and lo and behold, they’ve coughed up!

usernamesaretoohardtothinkof · 18/01/2025 10:53

Now stop fronting them money!

AlexandraJJ · 18/01/2025 10:55

I could never do this, owe money to anyone for any length of time, even if I had to starve. I don’t understand it to be honest especially where friends are concerned

Davros · 18/01/2025 10:55

Piss takers. Never again OP

poemsandwine · 18/01/2025 11:03

Never loan them anything again. That's just awful.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/01/2025 11:46

gremi · 18/01/2025 10:53

and lo and behold, they’ve coughed up!

Yah. So never ever lend them again

RobinEllacotStrike · 18/01/2025 12:09

How are they not excruciatingly embarrassed 😳

Next time say no!

JustJoinedRightNow · 18/01/2025 12:13

So glad you got it back eventually OP. I'm another one saying don't ever spot them for money again.
