To use the council bin at the end of the street?

I cleared up some waste from the street- a mixture of leaves, rubbish and bits of tarmac gravel.
This was not my garden waste, it was from trees up the street and other people’s litter.
If it was just leaves I wouldn’t have minded putting it in my own green waste bin, but it wasn’t suitable for that, so I put it in the big council bin at the end of the street.

A lady who was walking past with her dog at the time wasn’t too happy - she said the bin is for dog shit.(it is not one of those small dog shit bins)

I don’t think she has more right to use the bin for dog shit than I do to use it for rubbish I’ve cleared up from the street. AIBU?

Technically it is, I think. Where we are, those bins are just for litter - so dog poo, drinks bottles, food wrappers, receipts etc. They're not for stuff like gravel and leaves.

There are no CCTV cameras by bins where I live. So dropping off their packaging they dumped by street bins should be embarrassing for them.

Are there honestly no CCTV cameras on your high street outside the shops?
