I cannot believe that this lad is going to spend a year in prison- yes, I know that’s the law there, he should have known better etc, etc
I hope that the girl’s mother is ashamed of her actions.
I don’t want to think what the impact will be on Marcus 😥

Yes was it this poster that called him ‘a dirty young man’. Someone did. Why does that post get to stand?

Yup. It would be helpful for MN to clarify why they allow the same posters to continue posting such hateful tripe, but if you call it out then your post gets deleted! Ludicrous.

May be you should accept you live in a country where people are allowed to have opposing opinions and you cannot shut them down with isms.

Also maybe you should brush up on MN posting rules.

Happy new year 💘

Of course if the laws in Dubai were being followed to the letter, the mother would be extradited to stand trial for false accusations of rapes. But obviously one law for some and no law for others.

Good point! Why does she get away with accusing him of rape?

TwistedWonder · 31/12/2024 10:20

It’s been widely reported the girl is British Indian and Sikh - it’s also been mentioned about a million times on this thread.

And if calling a nasty vindictive woman who made a false rape allegation against a young man for having a holiday fling with her daughter a cow makes me nasty in your eyes - I’ll own that because she’s far far far nastier than anyone commenting on her disgraceful behaviour.

And if he should have kept it zipped maybe the girl should have kept her knickers on..

But I forgot, I’m on MN where every poster was a paragon on virtue in their teens and never ever made a mistake or got carried away. Silly old non sanctimonious far from perfect me

Edited

Off topic but can posters cease using the term "British-Indian" (which implies a dual nationality - impossible in this case) or "British-Asian" (implying they cannot just be British). The best description in the majority of cases is "a British person of Indian or Asian heritage".

Also can posters please cease the endless assumptions and the treating of a group of people as a monolith. There are some disgraceful and offensive comments being made on this thread all round.

nogginatemycat · 01/01/2025 12:46

The government of Dubai previously said: "Under UAE law, the girl is legally classified as a minor."

Again, he is a man who had sex with a minor, he is a convicted sex offender. Open and shut case, after a couple of weeks no one will care and he will still be in prison where he belongs.

If the public at large really cared there would be wide spread-out rage there is not, so that just shows the public opinion of this case. He handed himself in as he knew he was guilty.

If you keep posting on this thread, hopefully it will keep interest alive and maybe something can be done about this prison sentence.
He did something wrong, I agree, but I don't agree with the punishment.

Do you agree with the punishment because you think it is fair, or would you be accepting of whatever the punishment happened to be?

If it was a 16 year old girl in the UK and a 15 year old boy, what punishment would be like to see for that?

Yes absolutely, they don’t seem to realise that by continuing to post nonsense here they are doing what we want - keeping the thread active and getting people’s interest 😊

What I will comment on is when certain communities are calling a Hindu family racist purely on their religion and heritage and the fact a British citizen showed total and utter disregard towards that family and the traditions and values of both them and the country they were permitted to visit, Including that country’s widely known laws.

One of the oldest doctrines of law is “ignorantia juris non excusat”, may be people should be intelligent enough to educate themselves and their family when visiting strict countries, self-accountability is a virtue.

As for sentencing I don’t think for one minute I have any say on the sentencing guidelines for Dubai as I am not a resident there, to be honest we live in a country where our prime minister is widely nick named Two-Tier Kier, and our own sentencing is regarded dubious at best, there are many cases to reference on various issues, then its hypocritical as a British citizen to criticise others when ours is in question itself.

nogginatemycat · 01/01/2025 14:11

@yorktown Sorry I missed your questioning my posting on here, firstly it’s a forum and its free to anyone to post on as long as they learn MN rules 😂, you do not regulate that.

Secondly, I’m sorry to burst your bubble but if you believe posting on a forum on MN is going to garner any more support for this case in the public as a whole, when its yesterday’s news and people have already moved on as a whole.

Thirdly the sooner this thread gets filled the sooner it falls and people become bored and scroll on by just like every other news story.

PandoraSox · 01/01/2025 14:12

Two-Tier Kier

That phrase tells me all I need to know about a poster i.e - best to ignore 'em.

Why do you disagree that it is a widley known nick name for him, again another poster who either does not read or watch current affairs or does not like facts.

🥱

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 01/01/2025 14:15

I wonder if this young woman's mother is so active in ratting out reporting minor crimes in this country with the same energy and urgency as she reported this young man?

Something tells me probably not ...

I think they are all British and I don't think anyone is Hindu, where did you read that?

ChristmasCardi · 01/01/2025 15:22

the fact a British citizen showed total and utter disregard towards that family and the traditions and values of both them and the country they were permitted to visit

So it’s up to the non-Sikh boy (I believe he is Christian) to uphold the values of the Sikh family rather than the Sikh girl herself? Gotcha.

Yep. As well as reading up on the complex and not always applied laws of every country they go on holiday to, teenagers should always make themselves aware of the cultural and societal norms of every person they might find themselves attracted to just to be on the safe side

And meanwhile in the real world……

Aww bless dont worry I will do thank you. 😁

To quote David Lammy MP “It is the case, wherever you are in the world, that’s why the Foreign Office makes clear on its website, what the rules are, that you follow the rules and the law according to that country.”

Not sure why so many posters find this hard to understand. 🤔

You can all try to pick faults with what I say but at the end of the day he is a convicted criminal and convicted of a sexual crime with a minor and will be locked up for a very long time. Now I shall go and make a coffee and enjoy my free day at home!

RockOrAHardplace · 31/12/2024 18:38

Yes, that is true, but he wouldn't have been nearly 19 when it happened???

I didn't say he was. However, I still think Marcus is at least six months older than the girl and not in the same school year. I guess we will find out soon enough when his birthday is.

👏👏👏👏👏

There are people calling this man a sex offender and sexual predator.

For having consensual sex with someone 2 months younger who he could legally have sex with in their home country.

Yet people seem to be calling short the mother who made a false accusation or rape on behalf of her daughter.

Why can she break the law?

I was under the impression that both Markus and the Sikh girl were British citizens, and she was a willing participant. Surely she should take some responsibility for having knowledge of her religion’s traditions and values.

What has Starmer got to do with it?
