Breast cancer - posting for traffic

Posting out of desperation really. Diagnosed last year, stage 2A HER2. Had full mastectomy and ovary removal because I’m BRACA positive. Finished treatment.
found a small lump and had biopsy. Oncologist said it could be ‘leftover cells that have since grown’. TBH I froze in the appointment and of course subsequently have several questions.
does anyone have experience? Is this common? I’m terrified of secondaries. If anyone has any experience - positive or negative - please share.
I am 38 and have small children and need to be armed with as much information as possible. I can’t have tamoxifen as I had a severe allergic reaction so I’m aware that my options are limited. I had radiotherapy and targeted therapies to treat it.
I am utterly frantic. Thanks in advance

I'm sorry to be no help whatsoever but I can feel your panic from your message and just wanted to send you a huge hug.
I hope you get everything sorted as soon as possible xx

WilfredsPies · 30/12/2024 00:55

Ok, so they’ve found it and are going to test it as quickly as they possibly can. When was your appointment and what have they said about your next appointment? Will they phone you? Or have they given you a date to come in already.

Thank you. Appt was Xmas eve and I also had the biopsy then too. He was already talking in terms of it being cancer and as I mentioned, the same cancer as before. I just wish I’d asked if they consider this to be a big problem, ie how common is it for leftover cells to be lurking around after the first time?

I’ll get a call as soon as the biopsy results are in.

So sorry you are going through this. I have no advice relating to your. Question but perhaps write down the questions swirling around your head to be prepared for your next appointment or ask when they call you? Also could you call MacMillan or something similar for a chat?
All the best. And I hope everything works out OK for you.

WilfredsPies · 30/12/2024 02:08

Bloody hell, I cant imagine how tough Christmas with small children would have been.

I know it’s easier said than done, but write down every question you can think of every time you start getting panicked. Not just about treatment but things like sick pay from work, how to tell family etc. Things that MacMillan could help you with. Not only do you need to know this stuff but it’s going to keep your mind focused and stop it from breaking down into outright panic before you know what you’re dealing with.

What support, if any, do you have around you?

Yasai · 30/12/2024 20:41

Thanks everyone. I usually do this and it’s good advice. Lots of support - I’m very lucky in that respect - but it’s a burden to put so much strain and upset on them. I’ve been asked t go in tomorrow, I’m fully prepared for the news that it’s back.
