To ask for something to help my ten year old with a tummy ache!

Anyone who has some good advice my ten year old daughter has an awful tummy ache. I've given her gaviscon, calpol, and a paracetamol none of it has helped. She's been toilet but nothing. She's crying when the pain in her tummy peaks and I don't know what to do. It looks to be indigestion or a bug of some sort as she says the pain is where her belly button is. It goes and then comes back. Thank you in advance for anyone who can help 🙏🏻

Appendicitis?

Suntosnow · 28/12/2024 23:05

Any fever?

THATbasicfuckingelfontheshelfshit · 28/12/2024 23:05

How long has this been going on?

inneedofaglowup · 28/12/2024 23:06

She doesn't have a temperature or any sickness/nausea or constipation etc which makes me think it's indigestion or something

I also thought appendicitis. Starts centrally before moving to.the classic right side pain. The not pooping is another sign.

Does she have a temperature? Does she feel sick or is it pain alone? Have her movements been "normal" today? Sorry for all the questions but having been through these situations with my 2 the answers to these affects what I'd do

JustKeepSwimmingJust · 28/12/2024 23:07

I thought appendix. One for A&E tonight

Also calpol and paracetamol? Did you treat these both as paracetamol?

It's just the pain alone. No other symptoms.

There's a high risk of appendicitis so speak to 111 or bypass them and go straight to a&e. There's nothing more you can do at home for pain relief anyway and she's hurting.

Phoenix76 · 28/12/2024 23:07

Sorry op looks like I typed too slowly. It could be trapped wind, it's hideous and had me on the phone to 111 once certain it was serious. Does it hurt I'd you gently press it?

No I have the calpol first but the paracetamol around half an hour ago

Calpol is paracetamol

I've been massaging her tummy in the hopes any gas or bowel movements happen. She says when I massage her it makes her feel better

Suntosnow · 28/12/2024 23:08

Trapped gas maybe? Maybe a warm drink of mint tea would help if it's trapped gas?

Idontknowtheanswer · 28/12/2024 23:09

Calpol is paracetamol. Do you mean Calpol and neurofen?

Pancakeflipper · 28/12/2024 23:09

When did she last poo? Is it possible constipation (has her usual diet changed over the last few days with Christmas foods?)

Has she got trapped wind? Had a few carbonated drinks?

Could be a bug. If so hopefully the sickness will start.

Can she hop?? Apparently if you can't, possible appendicitis - but take it as an indicator not diagnosis.

A warm hot water bottle on her tummy might help.

90 mins apart? Check dosages there: if full doses of both have you given her a paracetamol overdose? If so then add that to reasons to go straight to A&E

If it’s wind, try and get her to lie on her back, knees up by chest and rock from side to side, then stretch legs out and repeat for about 20 mins.

I discovered this trick after getting awful trapped wind after eating 4 apricots…..

Superhansrantowindsor · 28/12/2024 23:11

I defection/trapped wind can be phenomenally painful. Get her to stand up straight and raise her hands above her head. Lay down face down on the bed and then gently massage her back.

Superhansrantowindsor · 28/12/2024 23:12

Please clarify what medicines you have and when.

Phoenix76 · 28/12/2024 23:12

Have you tried cycling her legs? Lay her on her back and move her legs as though she's cycling, may be at it a while, this has produced results for me in the past. Also try patting her lower back then circle movements, I don't think we need to be thinking appendicitis just yet... people have been in crippling pain with trapped wind many times, however you're the mum so will know if it becomes an emergency. Most of all try to stay calm, if she sees you panic she'll also panic making it hurt more

Phoenix76 · 28/12/2024 23:14

Also agree about the meds, unless we've misunderstood calpol and paracetamol are one and the same

lleeggoo · 28/12/2024 23:15

If you have given calpol and paracetamol in the past 2 hours you really need to be contacting 111

RosesAndHellebores · 28/12/2024 23:16

One dose of calpol and one of paracetamol in 90 minutes, whilst unwise, will not do any harm. Something to be aware of though and if you do go to hospital, be sure to tell them.
