Aibu to go to someone’s house and not want their dog jumping up and pawing at me?

A friend has a very different opinion and says you are coming into their (the dogs home) so you should put up with it.

It's always another dog one on here 😆

Pandasnacks · 28/12/2024 21:52

Well if they have a jumpy dog and you don’t like that then don’t go there. They can come to you

stayathomer · 28/12/2024 21:53

I d on my know, it’s a difficult one, you are going into their home and their dog might just be excited to see a new person. You could arrange to meet them somewhere else if you don’t like dogs?

Caravaggiouch · 28/12/2024 21:54

Dogs shouldn’t be jumping up at anyone. My MIL’s does and it’s incredibly annoying, I don’t know why she can’t train the bloody thing properly.

BrownBoot · 28/12/2024 21:54

You’re definitely unreasonable. It’s mandatory to mock-wrestle the dog and let it lick you on the face.

Newname71 · 28/12/2024 21:54

Nope, you shouldn’t have to put up with it, that’s ridiculous.
We have a very lovely dog, who’s our baby. We love him beyond measure but we don’t expect everyone else to!
He’s very well trained and if he’s told to get down, he does.
My mums dog on the other hand….no training and no boundaries. Does my head in.

stargazerlil · 28/12/2024 21:54

Yabu if you don’t bend down to say hello to the dog and give it a stroke then it will jump up to say hello and it is the dogs house after all so if you don’t like dogs then meet the person somewhere else.

Caravaggiouch · 28/12/2024 21:55

And it’s presumably the owner’s house, not the dog’s; they shouldn’t be inviting anyone round if their dog isn’t trained not to jump on everyone.

toomuchfaff · 28/12/2024 21:56

YANBU to bend down, say hello to the dog and then come in, but if the dog then keeps jumping on you to tell it "down", if go to friends houses, it doesn't mean I want them jumping on me. Yes it's the dogs space, but there are boundaries.

Eyesopenwideawake · 28/12/2024 21:57

Ignore it. If if jumps up raise your knee so that that's all it sees. Do NOT knee it in the face or even deliberately make contact, think of the knee blocking upward motion instead. Done consistently even the most determined dog will quickly give up.

YANBU

I have a big jumpy dog. And he gets put in his bed if he starts jumping at people. He knows he isnt allowed! Hes allowed to greet people and say hello, but he is not allowed to jump on people. Its rude and annoying.

My friend has a little dog and she let's it run up and down her sofa, licking everyones faces, he does not leave people alone. Who wants to be harrassed at someones house.

I love my dog, he gets treated well, is cared for, gets lots of treats and is a very cuddly dog. He gets lots of positive attention. But he is not allowed to harrass my guests

My PILs have a dog that they haven't trained and it constantly jumps up, steals food off plates, humps peoples feet etc so we don't visit anymore. Their house their choice but equally our choice not to put up with the dog.

Lemons1571 · 28/12/2024 22:14

It’s better than a dog that keeps sticking its nose repeatedly in your crotch.

EllieRosesMammy · 28/12/2024 22:22

YANBU.

I hate when people let their dogs jump up at you, I have 2 dogs myself and don't even let them jump up at me.

MarioLink · 28/12/2024 22:47

I once got full-on attacked by someone's cat in their home. I think it's just a risk if they have pets. I also find if you pet the dog they leave you be but if you act like you don't want to some dogs get in your space. I would be annoyed at the park but at the pets home I just accept it.

Endofyear · 28/12/2024 22:57

It's their house so their rules I guess. I just wouldn't go there.
