To put white noise on a mobile phone in babies crib

Just that really, we have downloaded a white noise app to help our newborn sleep and it has worked well.
I am tempted to put it at the food of her crib to keep her asleep during the night as she wakes up when we turn it off but not sure if it's safe to have a phone close to her for long periods.
Would you do this?

No I wouldn't. I would get a echo dot or Google speaker

WombatStewForTea · 27/12/2024 21:05

Phone no. I'd buy a white noise app or get an Alexa to play it off

BecuaseIWantItThatWay · 27/12/2024 21:05

No, wouldn't have phone near for long periods. Maybe just get a white noise machine from Amazon?

CatInABulkyBomberJacket · 27/12/2024 21:05

Can you not put it on the floor next to the crib? I believe safe sleeping guidelines state nothing inside the crib is advised

HPandthelastwish · 27/12/2024 21:07

Get a cheap radio in there, stick it on Classical and put it on low.

BakeOffRewatch · 27/12/2024 21:07

No, put the white noise in the further corner of the room and have it at a low background noise level to make any noises obscured. Prolonged noise will damage your baby’s hearing, let alone that close

doodleschnoodle · 27/12/2024 21:07

Just get a white noise machine on Amazon. We have one for both kids. I wouldn't put a phone in the cot but I've used mine in the same room when we've been away and forgotten the machine.

Plastictrees · 27/12/2024 21:07

We used a pink noise machine - it was great, had a lovely pink glow and we took it with us everywhere for the first year!

A few times we did use white/brown noise from our phones but via a speaker above the cot.

TeddyBeans · 27/12/2024 21:08

We got a white noise machine with a night light (two birds, one stone) off Portable White Noise Machine Baby Rechargeable Warm Light White Noise Baby Gifts Sleep Sound Machine Supports /24 Soothing Sounds/Endurance 20h+/7 Night Lights/Battery Warning/for Baby Sleep amzn.eu/d/0aXZTp0 Amazon - hopeful clicky link. It has a strap that you can attach to the top of the cot so it's not in with little one as such. Also white noise on Alexa works wonders too

TeddyBeans · 27/12/2024 21:08

Clicky link fail 🤦‍♀️

No harm will coming from sticking the phone under the crib on a table next to it. I wouldn’t put it in the crib itself though as guidelines are for an empty cot and it’d be uncomfortable for them to roll onto it. But I’d get a small speaker, echo dot or white noise machine instead so you can keep your phone, charge it overnight etc. and not have to surrender it to the cot.

This is making me panic slightly! I had a baby with severe reflux who spent months strapped to me in a baby carrier with my phone playing white noise right next to her head! It’s years later and she seems totally fine. Her hearing is fine too. What impact could it have had?

paristotokyo · 27/12/2024 21:12

White noise machine from Amazon definitely. My most used piece of baby kit. It's small, about the size of my hand and a charge lasts for ages

Balloonhearts · 27/12/2024 21:15

Definitely not in the crib, it can damage their hearing to have constant low level noise. Maybe across the room from them and only until they fall asleep then take it away.

I'd be more inclined to have a radio or TV on quietly though as this teaches them to sleep through people talking etc and doesn't make a rod for your back.

@Wedonttalkaboutboris I think it can cause tinnitus or cause hearing loss in the lower register or something. I could be wrong though, I'm not really sure. We were just told not to do it and to use something that varied in pitch not a constant drone.

I didn’t have it in the crib but had sounds like white noise, pink noise, a rainstorm… for the baby which worked well.

I had this, tommee tippee. It's brilliant

Edited

Babies become mobile (pardon the pun) and a mobile phone can become something that can fall out the cot and wake the baby up or a breathing hazard if baby rolls over and ends up with mouth over the screen. I had it on the chest of drawers in their room.

Bustopnumberone · 27/12/2024 21:30

No you need a white noise machine from Amazon. We have three, one for each room including ours as I can’t sleep without it now 😆

purpleblue2 · 27/12/2024 21:32

I wouldn’t leave it in her bed with her no. They aren’t the healthiest of things to be sharing a bed with. Why can’t you put it close by on a side or something or buy a speaker machine something like other posters have said
