To ask is it safe to try for another baby after 3 c sections?

Just that really. My youngest is 7. So 7 years since my last c section. My 3 children were pretty close together 2014-2017. If I wanted to have one last try is it generally safe?

I would ask your GP. I've had four sections and it used to be three max but in reality it was dependent on how well I'd healed and what damage had been done.

I agree I think you'd need to speak to someone who can maybe review your medical notes and full medical history with you and give you the pros and cons to weigh it up for yourself in an informed way. Noone on here can do that for you unfortunately.

Medical staff wont like it, but if you're fit and well, it should be ok...but you will have an increased risk for uterine rupture/pph etc

But why do you want to? With the youngest being 7, do you REALLY want to go right back to the start?

Multiple c sections can cause an increased chance of scar rupture or other complications such as PPH or placenta accreta/percreta but these are minimal risks but still riskier than someone who has had only no previous or even 1 section.
I’d try and get someone to review your delivery notes to see if there were any concerns or complications with your other c sections which could impact on a future pregnancy/birth so that you have the best information to make the right choice for you.

Ultimately it’s always your choice. I hope you manage to make a decision you’re happy with

Well I had 4 and everything was fine..agreed I don't think I would start again with a 7 year old though.

I'd say it's unlikely that any medical professional would give you assurances that it would be 'safe' and give you a green light.

The risks of rupture, haemorrhage, organ damage, placenta accreta/praevia increase with every caesarean delivery. They are small absolute risks, but obviously are all serious outcomes. There is no cap on the number of sections you can have- you just need to be aware that the chances of an adverse outcome increase with every oen you have.

There are plenty of women out there who have had 5+ sections (particularly in countries like Saudi Arabia). It could and statistically probably would be totally fine. However no one can tell you for definite whether you will get placenta accreta and end up on a major haemorrhage pathway. No one can really say how many adhesions you have and whether there could be injury to bladder or bowel due to having to dissect the adhesions to get to the uterus.

A theatre nurse once described to me that a uterus after multiple caesarean sections ends up as thin as tissue paper. Therefore, I would take into strong consideration the previous comments about possible rupture.

Dear Cousin had a late term rupture in her first pregnancy and didn’t feel a thing. She eventually went to hospital for loss of movement and, of course, it was all too late by then. Even the birth ended up very badly. We are lucky she is still with us.

This is a question for a medical professional that can look at your history.

MrsToothyBitch · 26/12/2024 05:41

My MIL had 4. All went ok and all her babies were fine. Think she stopped at 4 due to age and c section no 5 being considered a real risk for her.

MrsToothyBitch · 26/12/2024 05:42

Also a 6 year gap between 3 & 4. Her older 3 are each 2-3 years apart.
