To hope these antibiotics work before tomorrow

DD (5.5) just got diagnosed with chest infection after high fever lasting from Thursday-Saturday, cough, one bout of diarrhoea and overall not being happy, hasn't ate anything today, thought we was seeing an improvement yesterday but woke up today coughing her lungs up as she was all night and crying and not wanting to move. And was even falling asleep on me in the GP office.

Took her to GP who prescribed penicillin for chest infection ( first time needing antibiotics ) I may have just had a little cry because I'm so sad she won't be able to enjoy any part of the day tomorrow.

DH is exactly the same but older and much more capable of putting on a face for a couple hours.

In anyone else's experience is there any chance of improvement by tomorrow morning?

Will be giving all 3 doses today even though she will have to be woke up for the last one.

Is currently sleeping now.

@Tiswa

We was prescribed penicillin, the GP did say a couple days, and now DR office is closed until Friday unfortunately so I'm just hoping these were the right antibiotics. It's the first time we've needed antibiotics.

I had essentially the same thing last week and, 24 hours after antibiotics, I felt MUCH better. Finished the course now and almost back to normal (still tired, blocked sinuses, hacking cough though).

And also can I state through this my DD hasn't seen me visually distressed she won't be well for Christmas, it's on the mental side for me that is just sad as she was very much looking forward to see all family too, also has been the one changing the Christmas countdown everyday because I forget. So there hasn't been any " theatrics "--

And so it's just a shame that after a 6 day illness is now back to being poorly with a chest infection.

Will see how she gets on anyway! Just not nice to see her so sad.

Actually been given amoxocillin!

Dr asked us about penicillin so I assumed she'd be on that... however just read the actual bottle under the sticker

Amoxicillin is a pencillin and the normal frontline antibiotic to ward off such infections - it is fast acting so should see an improvement tomorrow and certainly within 48 hrs

and detoriation or not getting better needs checking

If it's any consolation, I had to have the GP called out to me for ear infections at least two Christmases in a row at that age (back when they'd do stuff like that!!) and I only know about it now as my parents told me. I have no memory of a miserable Christmas, so while she may feel a bit under the weather tomorrow, overall she's likely to not remember specifics, remember the good bits!

I had the same, can't remember feeling miserable during Christmas Day but can remember going to the doctors house that night because I had an ear infection.
Your DD won't remember this op, I think a message from Santa on top of her presents saying he hopes she feels better is a great idea

A five year will be expecting gifts tomorrow. Delaying gifts will feel like punishing them for being ill. It normal takes 40+ hours for antibiotics to work so I would plan on a low key day for tomorrow.

I'd go by what she wants to do. I remember a miserable Christmas Day feeling very ill as a kid and having to be helped to open my presents. And just having no enthusiasm at all for it, not wanting to play with them etc as felt so bad. It would have been better waiting a day really.

Wait until everyone is truly well to do Christmas.
We had one year when we went ahead on the 27th because we felt we should. Neither DH nor one DD really enjoyed it. The next year various illness kept hitting one after another. We held strong, waited until the 5th Jan and had one of our best Christmas’s ever.

Sounds like the flu bug I had over the last couple of weeks. My timeline was Friday evening-Tuesday, raging fever. Went to doctors on Tuesday and got antibiotics, Wednesday felt a lot better but still not quite right, Thursday was back at work.

Christmas movies and cuddles sounds perfect. Maybe write her a get well soon letter from Santa on top of her presents hoping she’ll enjoy them when she’s better.

Awwwwwwww do this op!

Just about to give 3rd dose, managed to get her to eat a little bit though and drinking and is still weeing, stayed awake for 4 hours after waking up, so far seems ok, thought temp was going back up again as one measurement was 38 and then an hour later was 37.5 and just checked an hour ago it was 36.6. So i dont know if the thermometer is a bit off.

Cough is coming out more and more and it's annoying her very much, but I wouldn't say that's a deterioration just yet, breathing has been a little fast but aside from that seems ok at the minute.

Will be waking her for the 3rd dose as really don't want any missed doses.
