My baby grandad has got a cold and is coughing it's her first Christmas but we are due to have Christmas dinner and the day there would it be okay for my 7 month old to be around them

So are you asking if it's OK you don't go?

Or proposing you leave the child at home

Or asking grandad to not be there

Of course it's OK to not go somewhere if someone is ill

Hufflemuff · 24/12/2024 10:59

Didn't you make this exact post yesterday?

Can't leave her as she's only 7 months old and it's her first Christmas and we got no food in due to having dinner at there's

There is an incredibly nasty respiratory virus doing the rounds, hospitals are full to the brim with it, don't expose a young baby unnecessarily!

stichguru · 24/12/2024 11:07

Don't go it's better to be safe than sorry.

FictionalCharacter · 24/12/2024 11:14

Don't go. You don't know whether it's a cold, flu, covid or RSV. The shops are open today, you can buy food.

ueberlin2030 · 24/12/2024 11:17

I'm not sure there's a right answer here tbh.

caramac04 · 24/12/2024 11:23

I agree with @ueberlin2030 if it’s just a cold then I’d go but not allow close contact although others could be fulminating an illness.
If it’s a more nasty viral illness then I wouldn’t want to expose baby to it.
On reflection, I’d buy food and have the day at home. It’s one day and with some of the viruses going round it’s not really worth the risk.
Ultimately trust your gut and do what you think is right for your baby.

Didimum · 24/12/2024 11:23

I would go but just not have him hold baby or get too close.

The shops are open, you can get a small chicken and Christmas dinner veg are about 10p a bag. If you don't want to go then don't but the shops are open to buy your dinner ingredients. It's not the end of the world.

Didn’t you ask this yesterday? She’ll be fine. She’s going to get a cold at some point.

It’s also fine if you don’t want to go for whatever reason.

Orangelight23 · 24/12/2024 11:30

I don't know, tbh most people I know have got some sort of illness. Life goes on. I personally would still go.

SatansBobbleheadedDashboardOrnament · 24/12/2024 11:30

For fuck sake it's fine.

Lavender14 · 24/12/2024 11:34

I would probably go as well op but ask him to keep his distance from her, don't let him hold her or kiss her etc. My toddler is still recovering weeks later from an awful respiratory virus. I think better to be safe than sorry when they're so little and there's some really nasty stuff going round at the moment

AlmosttimeforChristmas · 24/12/2024 13:16

I think it depends if you can trust granny and grandpa to keep their distance. I include granny in case she’s got it but not showing symptoms yet
