Bloody homework

Just that really - DD is in year 11 and they've already had two rounds of GCSE mocks that they've had to revise for with another set in march ready for the real exams starting in May.

All normal - but the amount of homework that is still being given whilst they're told to revise is ridiculous. They finished school last Friday and were sent an email Saturday setting a two hour piece of homework for a subject. DD did that straight away as we have a few days booked away and then last night another email with a three hour piece set for the holidays.

I'm fuming - this is supposed to be downtime surely? All of it has to be in by the time they go back to school.

Is this normal? Not sure whether I should just suck it up or say something. She bounced out of school happy and relieved Friday that everything is up to date but now back to moody and stressed

This amount of homework is really scary, and the kids need time to play freely! I really wish the school wouldn't assign so much homework.

I have two daughters, and every weekend when I want to go out and have fun with the whole family, I always have to supervise my daughters to finish their homework in advance, which totally messes up my perfect weekend plans.

Yep it's awful
DD15 same situation going into mocks after Christmas

My American friend who lives here and has 2 boys is so shocked at this system and how serious it is.

Sorry to hear this isn't just a local problem

I could perhaps understand if it's curriculum that they haven't had chance to cover or learn but they let them finish at midday Friday! Stay till normal time and do it then! But setting it outside of school time by email is not on. Plus it's not an effective way to learn - my DD rushed through it, took her chance on the quiz and passed - she actually took none of it in.

I suspect I'll fight a losing battle but I mention it at a revision night meeting

Also got a y11, and totally agree. The pressure on them is immense. Not just homework but constant exams and revision.

They talk about mental health in PSHE, then put them in a situation where they have no work life balance.

DS, 16, Y11. Just finished mocks. Two pieces of set homework over holidays, and general revision for March mocks. I've told him nit to even think about it until after Christmas Day, he's exhausted.
