How do I frame a thick photo? Feeling emotional.

Help! I've just broken the frame of a photo of me whilst pregnant. It is a special photo. I had a photo shoot with my ex, who was abusive. He dictated the whole shoot and made me feel hideous by the end of it. The photographer picked up on it. My ex went to use the bathroom which was a walk away down 3 flights of stairs. She took a quick photo of me on my own whilst he went and said to email her if I wanted it. I didn't email her until I left the relationship 3 months later. She sent it to me framed for free. I look tired, and lonely, but I remember deciding during that shoot that I was leaving. It is literally a photo of me realising that I will soon be free of him. I left after son was born after lots of safety planning. So. It's a special photo. I'm in tears having smashed the glass. Silly because I can just re frame it. It was just sad seeing my photo with smashed glass across it. Not sure why, it's just triggered something. I've taken the photo out and it is printed on cardboard probably 2-3mm thick. I want to order a frame ideally ASAP. Can anyone help me find a frame that will fit a thick photo in? It's 5x7 inches. Sorry for the life story. Christmas...

There are some wonderful photo shops - or email the lady and find out where she gets the frames from.

I've already emailed her but it bounced back saying that she's not doing photography anymore and the email inbox isn't monitored. By photo shops do you mean shops that do photography? Or sell frames? I can't think of one near me but will Google.

Most Asda superstores have a small section where you can have photos printed and they usually have a wide selection of frames. I’ve always found the staff helpful when I’ve used the facility. If you take your photo to them I’m sure they’ll help you choose the perfect frame. Try not to fret over it. It’s easily sorted.

Not sure why it's made me so anxious. It's just a bloody photo but for some reason it's triggered something upsetting.

I would put the photo in a drawer for a few days until the Christmas hassle is over, and then once things are calmer, look for a frame while the sales are on.

The whole frame is broken. One of the wooden bits has splintered.

I managed to get a really thickly mounted print into a standard frame from max spielman this week! So I would suggest most standard frames will work and hopefully that will allow you not to worry.

PlatinumBrunette · 23/12/2024 23:44

I’ve just framed a painting in a very thick mount for my neighbour’s Xmas gift - it was just a normal frame from Amazon. I’m sure your precious photo will fit in a standard frame.

Perhaps you can see the break a a symbol of how far you’ve come, and a fresh, new frame for a new year is what you need. Well done on being so strong and getting away.

RegulatorsMountUp · 23/12/2024 23:46

A box frame would do it. Available almost everywhere including supermarkets.

TeaAndToddlers2023 · 23/12/2024 23:48

I use easyframe.co.uk, they can do pretty much anything you need!

StormingNorman · 23/12/2024 23:51

You could do a google search for picture framers near me. They’ll have a good selection of frames and be able to make you one if you can’t find something you like.

Google “Picture Framing” in your local area. There is an independent framer near me and what you are describing would be no problem for him. And honestly, not as expensive as you may think.

What a lovely photographer, who thought to take a photo of you without your ex!
I can understand that the photo means a lot to you.

Lots of good advice in this thread about how to re-frame the photo.

This is what I would do too. It's worth it.
