“Rat in garden” gate

Hello all..

this is a very odd post but I hope your ready to go down this rabbit hole.. I’m new to a Culdesack of about 6 houses, just me & my two year old, we don’t have back gardens only front (to which I don’t yet have a 6 foot fence surrounding, so my neighbour to the left who does not either - can see right in..) my neighbours to the Left are lovely, the right are an elderly couple who seem lovely although the wife has made a few odd remarks to me, but I sort of just shrugged off.

not much has happened due to cold weather the last few months, that’s until yesterday.. when the neighbour to the right of the elderly couple who has my number called me to say “Lisa’s knocked my door & said there is a Big dead rat in your garden” Ofcourse with a small child I immediately went into a concern and rushed out to the front garden to check, no rat to be seen.

I then respond to the neighbour next door but one, there is no rat there - now the above lady a few doors down has continued to propel this topic for a couple of days. I don’t have a ring doorbell (clearly need one) but I made it clear to her if my immediate neighbours see anything of concern that I am failing to remove, they should either knock my door post a note through.. I’ve since had no communication directly from Lisa or her partner concerning this Rat? Is this is game of not so friendly neighbour politics?…

There are weird people everywhere, looks like you've found your local set. If you're able to reply then you can either address it directly (I'm confused, if Lisa was so concerned why didn't she knock at my door and tell me? It seems particularly odd that she'd tell someone else, particularly as the rat was nowhere to be seen when I checked for myself) or you go full Monty Python and acknowledge the cult of Rat Jesus (who died and rose again) with Lisa as his herald and prophet, making it clear that you don't mind her building a shrine but you draw the line at pilgrims in rat costumes congregating in your dahlias.

Maybe there was rat in your garden, but not dead, just semi-dead.
That happened to me last month. Quite horrible.

I like the born again rat idea

Tis the season etc

Stunning comment 😂really needed this to cheer me up (I indeed seem to have found the gossips/weirdo’s of the street) I am very chatty effervescent by nature which I think in this instance has been taken advantage of, I was very blatant in my whole reaction to the thing which my stance is “Lisa being my t neighbour with the concern of the rat should be communicating with me, either leaving a note etc.. not alerting another neighbour to tell me..”

very strange behaviour haha

It’s quite possible I just don’t understand how in a matter of 3 hours (conveniently whilst I was out) it disappeared and I was never actually spoken to directly? I found out through hearsay from another neighbour.. :(

Contact UB40. Their speciality is sorting out rats in kitchens but I dare say gardens would be within their remit. 😂

Neighbourhood cat has taken it home as a Christmas gift for it's (un)lucky owner?
