Hi ladies, do any of you ever had allodynia and if so what was the cause of it? How did you resolve it (or didn’t)? Grateful for your shared knowledge and experience.

Not me but one of my DC; broken wrist causing nerve damage. In the process of the nerves healing, they have gone haywire and all sorts of sensations cause pain where they ordinarily wouldn't. DC has just started desensitisation exercises to help retrain the nerves.

Once and it was due to shingles. The rash appeared about 2 days later. Lasted about 10 days today.

Yes, a few times. Usually it goes away after a short time. Worst was excruciating vulvodynia that lasted 2+ years. I needed gabapentin for that. That was more than 20 years ago.

Interesting that there are desensitisation exercises now - what do they involve @SE13Mummy ?

Yes, due to nerve damage in my arm. I've done a lot of work on it so its not anywhere near as bad as it was but still there

@Bowietips sorry you have been through this. Did you ever find out what was causing it?

@Bowietips there are lots of videos online that demonstrate how to do the exercises but it's mostly about rubbing different textures over the skin for a few minutes at a time, or immersing the hands in boxes of rice, lentils, Lego etc. The hand therapy accounts on YouTube are most relevant to my DC but there's a lot out there.
