Late presents....what to do?

Hi,
So unfortunately a few of my child's presents are stuck in transit and are not going to be here in time for Christmas. They are things that are in the letter to Santa.
Would you leave a fun note maybe from Santa saying they will be late? Do a special delivery in a sack a few days later? Or do you have any other ideas..
Child will still be happy with their other presents but I am thinking what am I going to do with them when they do turn up if not?!

A letter from Father Christmas apologising for trusting Evri to help him this year and give them once they've arrived.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 23/12/2024 00:16

A cute note delivered by a penguin!

Do snowy penguin footprints.

And the penguin can leave a note and an apology fish.

Maybe.

Someone else might have a better idea.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 23/12/2024 00:19

If you want I’ve had a good idea about how to make the footprints…

Yep, Evri have let me down too. Thankfully it's a gift for a teen, so they understand.

Squeekey · 23/12/2024 00:21

Is there any way you can get them elsewhere and rhen return the late ones? You may need to be inventive for how to manage this, and it may involve travelling, but if at all possible I'd try to come up with the magic, even if it's really inconvenient.

Ablondiebutagoody · 23/12/2024 00:36

How old is your child?

Violetpearls · 23/12/2024 00:38

Age 10, still believes but probably the last year I guess. That's why I want to keep it special.
It's from Shein, clothes, so no shops around sell it.

I used to print out small envelope templates from the internet and put tiny letters in them from the elves. They look like little airmail envelopes. Do this and pop it under a present for your child to find. It also helps if you and hubby pretend to be really surprised and also want to read the note etc.

I mean this could work as the parcel would certainly be very delayed if it had gone via the south pole. Grin

What about a letter from Santa saying the elf who was in charge of these presents caught a cold so he told him to rest up in bed with a hot sherry, and Santa will make a special trip to deliver them when the elf is feeling better and has finished her presents.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 23/12/2024 00:44

Get a cereal box, cut a rectangle from it, fold it in half. Draw half a penguin paw print and cut it out. Open it and you have a hollow penguin footprint.

Lay it on the floor and sprinkle flour in it to make penguin footsteps.

Child will be too excited to concern themselves with geographical impossibilities.

Not sure about the fish. Any neighbours have a pond? (JK).

Ablondiebutagoody · 23/12/2024 00:57

I think that if they still believe in Santa, penguins coming into the house and leaving flour footprints will swifly knock that on the head! I wouldn't make any firm commitments about the presents until you have them in your possession. Do you have any of the presents from the letter?

Hesonlyakidharry · 23/12/2024 01:01

A 10 year old asking Santa for shite from shein? Oh my god.

Maybe be honest that santa doesn’t do shein and get something else from Santa.

I don't think that helps now, as what the child asked for hasn't arrived and it's so close to Xmas...

Helplessandheartbroke · 23/12/2024 01:32

Can you not explain you buy the shein stuff and the others are off santa? If not I like the penguin idea

saltinesandcoffeecups · 23/12/2024 01:38

Honestly… my mum would lose at least one gift each Christmas. It really did become a running joke when she’d find it July. Just get it and say Santa hid it extra well because nobody could find it!

Wowsers! What a negative and miserable thing to say!
Merry Christmas.

Can you switch gifts around? Tell her that you saw her list and knew that Santa doesn’t shop at shein as he makes his presents, so you ordered those things and he’s sent other stuff instead (whatever you’d planned to get her yourself). Then explain the shein stuff is late, presumably at 10 she will understand that even if she is disappointed.

UndeniablyGenX · 23/12/2024 08:04

I don't think you should over-egg it with snowy footprints and Santa letters. That sort of thing was how I realised there was no Santa and I was only 7! If she asks just say the presents must be held up in transit and then have them appear once they do turn up.

I think we should all be negative about the stuff being sold be shein, unless you’re good with sweat shops, exploitation, fast fashion, landfills piled high… very chrisymassy indeed.

Turnthelightoff · 23/12/2024 23:25

Have you always said all presents are from Santa? Maybe time to at least introduce the fact that parents buy some of the items and you took on this one because it’s clothes but you’ve been let down by the delivery, good job Santa was still on time?!

A 10 year old believing in Santa?
