Tw: Nightsweats / Cancer

Last night I had a night sweat, I woke up to feed my 8 month old and my bottom sheet felt slightly damp. It dried pretty quickly and I went back to sleep, when I woke up in the morning it was completely dry? I've never had one before im 28

I don’t have any other symptoms, other than I’ve had a sharp stich feeling come and go from my rib cage on my left side but I’ve put that down to being anxious.

My 8 month old isn’t very well, he’s had an ambulance out etc etc, so I’ve been chronically anxious.

Now I’m worried it’s not anxiety and it’s cancer.

Can anxiety cause this? 😞 AIBU jumping to conclusions?

Not sure why it would be cancer?
i had night sweats pretty badly in the first year after having both my babies. It’s probably hormones.

RandomMess · 22/12/2024 12:58

I had horrific night sweats after one of my DC.

Rosesanddaffs · 22/12/2024 13:00

@MumofHennHals its most likely hormonal, I have this every month during my period.

Why do you think it’s cancer? X

I've just finished my period. I'm really highly anxious at the moment, I suffer with health anxiety and my little boy has been in hospital this week. I'm constantly on edge with a racing heart, so I think it's anxiety and maybe that's why it's caused me to have a night sweat? :(

I'm worried about Leukemia and lymphoma, it's been my biggest worry for years since I had investigations on a lymph node ( was all ok back then )

It probably is anxiety, it can do strange things to your mind and body.

If you can, try talking to your gp about your concerns, from what you’ve said it doesn’t sound like cancer.

Rosesanddaffs · 22/12/2024 13:56

I hope your son is ok, I know as a parent we fear the worst and it’s constant worry, sending you hugs xx

I think it's hormonal, I started getting them when I hit peri. It's very common in peri because your hormones go haywire - so it's probably just that your hormones are all over the place.

I'm not even 30 yet, I doubt I'm peri!

Your GP can give you a lymph node exam and blood tests if you're worried. Mine was hormones.

HoppityBun · 22/12/2024 14:01

Glandular fever?

olympicsrock · 22/12/2024 14:06

There are a million reasons for sweating at night most of them completely benign. Deep breath ! Xx

Behindthethymes · 22/12/2024 14:08

I had night sweats post partum for a few months and anxiety. Hormones are funny things.
it’s easy not to notice sweats if you don’t wake in the middle because they dry up completely.

JollyGreenSnake · 22/12/2024 15:20

Lots of people experience night sweats with chest infections/flu. You're really jumping to conclusions here.

Octavia64 · 22/12/2024 15:22

I get them with

Chest infections
Flu

Got them appallingly with peri

They're also a side effect of lots of meds.

Very unlikely to be cancer

LoafofSellotape · 22/12/2024 15:24

Isn't it really common with breast feeding/ after having a baby?

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 22/12/2024 20:15

It'll likely be hormonal. I had shocking night sweats after the birth of my DD I had them after DS to but not as bad. I now get them when ill, thanks kids another lasting effect of birthing babies.

nothingcomestonothing · 22/12/2024 20:20

If it was lymphoma you'd also have palpable lymph nodes, weight loss, pain on drinking alcohol, fatigue etc. Night sweats on their own aren't a sign of cancer.

Maybe consider accessing help with your anxiety - mine was at its worst in my first year of parenting and I regret that I allowed anxiety so much space in that time which I won't get back.
