Stamping from upstairs neighbours, including a jumping child, at 11.30pm?

I am mostly just venting but also wondering if my frustrations are unreasonable or not.

I live in a flat and have struggled with particularly active and noisy upstairs neighbours for about 2 years now. The main issue generally is that they are very heavy footed and never seem to stop moving- 24/7. It is generally annoying but I try to be patient as I am super sensitive after 2 years of this and when I have gone up to speak to them (in the days of ridiculously noisy DIY) they just don’t care.
This evening they have quite a few guests round. They have had their son staying for about a week (I know this as the footsteps are louder when they are here) and they have some other guests over this evening, including a very rambunctious child. This child lived with them for a while and still visits occasionally and it is no exaggeration to say that when the child is here it runs around their flat constantly. Full pelt, loud running across the entire flat.
It is now 11.40pm and the child is still running around. Am I being unreasonable to think this is incredibly selfish behaviour in a flat?

Your neighbours aren’t “heavy footed” the insulation between the flats is just crap. If you don’t like it, either pay to install more sound insulation or move. You can’t expect them not to live their lives to accommodate you.

I don’t expect that. I can hear them all day and night and accept that living in a flat I will hear neighbours. However, I do think a child running around constantly for 4 hours until midnight is excessive and not just living your life.
I suspect they may have removed some insulation when they did their move in DIY as they are much louder than previous neighbours. All the research I have done has suggested that there is very little I can do from my side to insulate; the best effects would be for them to sort their floor out. Believe me- if I could pay for some insulation in the ceiling to fix this, I absolutely would!

We live in an old terrace , and the running around from one of the neighbours is bad when they have a particular child over.
( sounds like two or more children) allowed to stamp about, slam doors, jump downstairs repeatedly so my pictures ( party wall) get jolted awry-

Seems children often aren’t exercised enough - They need outdoor exercise to be calm indoors, just as dogs or stabled horses do.

Frenetic running about, manic shrieking and jumping needs burning off outdoors.

I fully sympathise OP. I also have an upstairs neighbour where I have lived for 3 years. Three full years of a child who is allowed to run at full speed up and down the long hallway and bawls morning and night. The parents are hopeless. At least the dad has stopped chasing the child around. Nearly blew my living room light bulb out. No answers although I have complained to their landlord a few times for the noise level. Some people are just hopelessly uncivilised.
