Food and drink in theatre

Taking my Dd, 6, to The Nutcracker at the weekend. It states that there is no food or drink to be consumed. The show is 90 minutes long. Surely you can bring a bottle of water for children? (and I will need to take a small snack)

What have you done when taking Dc to see a show?

I was at Les Mis and had end of row seats. People were coming in and out willy nilly (Aberdeen arena is notoriously bad for this). In the middle of a very poignant song a woman came clumping up the steps. People's lack of manners astound me

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle
Why are you being so rude?
People were saying that if you go to the toilet mid way through the performance you won't be let back in.

I said even if you need to wait until the interval or a suitable time during the performance they will eventually let you back in. They don't throw you out.

Reading it back I was commenting out of context, which, however as a PP pointed out, was changed by you.

Thanks all,

We had a great time, ended up taking a Mcds in and sausage rolls, cake and dds water bottle.
It all went well

You’re such a prize aren’t you? 🙄

Probably too polite.

Was this in London??

I doubt that very much. They were just far more polite than you, and probably realised that you don’t know any better.

Fancy taking the smelliest junk food - sausage rolls and McDonalds - possible into a theatre! They were probably just shocked that anyone would be so uncouth and lacking in basic manners.

And no wonder this country has an obesity problem.

Lookforthegoodthings · 22/12/2024 14:47

🤣🤣🤣

Of course I didn’t, just wanted to shock the wannabe snobs with a stick up their….

It wasn’t in London, not even the uk.

I asked at the door if we could take Dds water in and a pack of mini croissants, they said of course.
We didn’t end up eating them, but shock horror, Dd had a few sips of water.

We had a wonderful time, with many other families enjoying themselves, some children even talking quietly and even gasping with delight at the show…pesky kids!

Your response to all the points made by those replying is sarcasm (I hope) about taking in lots of food and drink. I said in my previous post that I found you to be self entitled. You confirm it by your unwillingness to reflect on any of the points raised about theatre goers wanting and being entitled to, the opportunity to enjoy the production without selfish people spoiling it for them.

TriangleLight · 22/12/2024 15:17

Mini croissants as a theatre snack 🙈

I’m assuming this is a pisstake

Nope. My dd has been ill and currently she only likes certain foods, mainly plain things.

if a kid needs a drink, they need a drink

It's a theatre, not the Sahara. Tell them to wait. They will cope. If they can't, then you need to get much better at saying no or this will be the least of your problems.

Exactly.i've never seen such pandering to kids.

TriangleLight · 22/12/2024 15:38

Rustling- check
Crumbs- check

Very good, @Lookforthegoodthings

MN is Uk based so unless you mention otherwise, of course people will tend to assume you’re in the UK and give advice/opinions accordingly.

We had a wonderful time, with many other families enjoying themselves, some children even talking quietly and even gasping with delight at the show…pesky kids!

Well at least no one was rustling or munching!

NerrSnerr · 22/12/2024 18:32

I understand people's point about rustling but can I ask people what the issue is with children (or adults) in a theatre drinking from a water bottle (one I assume is already out of your bag and ready to drink?) I can't see how that's rude or a problem.

I saw someone upthread saying we're pandering to children by giving them water- I mean I'd understand if they were demanding coke or red bull.

Also, I remember primary school where the only drink I got all day was the small milk carton at lunch (even in the summer) and being so thirsty when I got home. Can't have been healthy.

Makingchocolatecake · 22/12/2024 21:39

Lookforthegoodthings · 21/12/2024 00:30

I don’t need a drink or snack really, but surely they won’t stop a 6 year old having her water bottle in my bag? That seems crazy, bag searches do too

Why do you think bag searches are crazy?

Sounds like it was a matinee performance, in which case you'd expect more kids.

GiveItAGoMalcom · 22/12/2024 23:53

Not in the UK my arse.

As if the OP wouldn't mention that when asking 'surely it's ok?'

🙄
