I bought new pyjamas, a dressing gown and slippers and the total was about £100. They put it in the bin in the evening which I wasn’t aware of and it was collected in the morning. Do I have a claim

This happened to me two weeks ago. I contacted the retailer who replaced the goods immediately...no questions asked.

MyPithyPoster · 19/12/2024 21:51

This happened to me with a hotel chocolate delivery, 60 quid worth of hot chocolate clunked on top of the cat litter delightful

A bin man here comes way ahead of the actual collection, checking inside every bin. They empty half full bins by hand into another to make collection faster.
If a parcel was sitting on top it couldn't disappear as you described.

They definitely don’t check inside the bins where I live. A parcel inside the bin could definitely ‘disappear’.

Happened with a £50 Amazon shirt - it arrived in a plastic envelope with holes to avoid suffocation. The courier fired it into the bin which had just been emptied so it was saturated in bin juice. It washed fine but it was a gift so I was sent another.

TeenLifeMum · 19/12/2024 21:59

We’ve found boxes delivered in our recycling that was full of empty boxes. Came across them by chance. Now we’re having to check regularly as usually dc do recycling and I can’t trust two 13 yos to check properly. Bonkers “safe” place!

Wonderi · 19/12/2024 22:03

Had you put the bin down as your safe space?

I would contact the retailer and just ask.

FortyFacedFuckers · 19/12/2024 22:46

This happened to me once with an order over £300 and I was holiday and a neighbour had put my bin out for collection, both ASOS & DPD refused to refund me but luckily I had paid on my credit card and they eventually refunded me months later

@Kikibee

Ridiculous, what if you don’t come home before the bins are emptied?!?

OP said they were emptied next day.

yes but the delivery drivers don't/didn't know that, therefore they can't use that as an excuse. She could have been on holiday or working away or whatever.

OP can absolutely claim from the company she purchased it from as that is who her contract is with - the company choose the delivery service so they can then chase it up with them if they want. If they aren't helpful go via your payment method and ask for a refund that way.

TheLette · 19/12/2024 23:29

Yes, unless you told them to deliver there (which I'm guessing you didn't) you are absolutely entitled to a refund or replacement from the retailer. I had this with a Boden parcel recently (thanks to Evri who didn't even send me a delivery notification email so I didn't realise for about a week). Boden gave me a prompt refund and also compensation (which they didn't have to do but the item was out of stock and had been on sale so I guess they felt it was appropriate). Hilariously Boden must have told Evri and then Evri contacted me to ask if I had checked with my neighbours to see if they had my parcel. The Evri tracking showed a photo of it in my recycling bin. Just can't make this stuff up sometimes.

It's so annoying, I posted some of DD's clothes to her, she had forgotten to take them back to uni. They didn't arrive, eventually she discovered that the postman had put it in the bin, which was emptied.
I tried to claim from Royal Mail, but they said as I had no evidence of purchase I couldn't claim from them, and even if I did, there was a maximum of £25.

They doesn't happen here. It's wheeled up closed to the back of the truck and machine emptied.

I don't think you have any recourse since they told you.

That’s what I was worried about

The previous poster is incorrect. They can't just tell you they are delivering to a bin and that makes it ok. Not unless you asked them to deliver to a bin in the first place. That's not what the law says.

MadKittenWoman · 20/12/2024 11:06

This is what they do with mine...

Sorry- photo won't attach. They just dump them on the doorstep for passersby to see despite me telling them of a safe space.
