Excessive Water Rates

Now that we know that we are going to be paying enormous increases in our water 💦
bills, is it time for executive bonuses to be abolished and for shareholders dividends to have to be approved by a government committee? In Yorkshire Water area there has been a significant increase in water pollution over the last year coupled with an enormous £300,000.00 bonus for the chief executive. This is quite simply a huge piss take.

Business has to pay the government fines somehow.....
I agree with you in principle about nationalisation. I'm not sure the government would do a better job though.

I think they've failed in their duty wrt water pollution and every shareholder should have to repay their profits to sort it out. Think it's ridiculous that they have conditions put on them about sewerage and things, can ignore it, pay out shareholders and then expect us to pay again for them to do what they were obligated to do in the first place.

"is it time for executive bonuses to be abolished..."

It was time fecking years ago!

Christmasmuppet · 19/12/2024 19:43

Water should be not for profit.

geenideewaarom · 19/12/2024 19:48

On the other hand, that bonus is about 50p per customer so are you really getting exercised about that? The whole industry needs huge investment to cope with our current lifestyle and I guess none of you are willing to pay for that. In a nationalised sector your taxes would go up to pay so either way you end up paying

geenideewaarom · 19/12/2024 19:50

@geenideewaarom sorry I meant 5p per customer

Startingagainandagain · 19/12/2024 19:55

Utilities should all be re-nationalised.

Private companies will always focus on profits, bonuses and shareholders, not what is best for us.

timenowplease · 19/12/2024 19:57

And the water where I am in Yorkshire tastes disgusting. I had to get a water filter tap. Thieving bastards.

Arlanymor · 19/12/2024 19:58

My water IS not for for profit, but ancient and decaying infrastructure plus fines is the issue.
