To have tea with my maiden aunts?

I’m thinking of joining the social media platform Bluesky - but it seems so tame - everyone’s so polite to each other - hence the thread title -

“we may as well have tea with our maiden aunts”

it’s got a nice upbeat name and a nice, user friendly interface - but everyone on it seems like they’re in some kind of Jane Austin novel with everyone being v v polite etc ..

Any opinions on Bluesky?

Bluesky isn’t filled with bots which is nice.

I like it on there, now I’ve learned his to use it.

I’m no longer seeing Racists or Misogynists, I now longer have Porn pop up when I search on a #, no spam, adverts on bots,

Met some nice people.

There are about 25 MILLION people posting on BlueSky. Your experience is entirely dependent on who you follow. Follow interesting people.

End of January payday, I reckon. Breadcrumbing will start in earnest by 7th - 14th and then it'll be bank accounts hacked, section 21s flying, rent increases, abandoned kittens needing surgery - all the usual stuff these sorts deploy.

i see the people I follow on twitter and that's it. But a lot are moving over to BlueSky so I thought I might have a look but I wasn't sure I could be arsed. I reckon there'll be a proper exodus next year though.

Exactly. My aunts, regardless of their marital status, are and were a notoriously sharp-tongued, garrulous bunch.

It's actually helping to wean me off social media in general as Twitter was my worst SM vice (even though I only post about once a month 😄).

The Bluesky algorithm is quite slow to pick up on your specific interests, so you generally get a lot of safe/tame content in your feed for quite a long time. The faster you post, like, and share content the quicker it gets more relevant.
