AIBU to not want to host them at home?

A cousin of mine whom I haven’t seen for a few years suggested visiting me which would be fine but they have 5 children aged between 2 and 9. They visited a relative 2 days ago and damaged their home and were allowed to run wild.

My dog also hates kids though she isn’t aggressive, she just hides away but she really doesn’t like them and I’d prefer to go to a local restaurant. I’m happy to pay for everyone.

AIBU go say that I’m happy to meet but would prefer to go to a restaurant or similar?

Sounds like a good idea.

Porkyporkchop · 19/12/2024 16:58

Do that, sounds like a lovely treat

ThisIsSockward · 19/12/2024 17:03

Definitely. I'd use the dog as an excuse, if that makes it easier. They don't need to know the specifics, just that it's not possible to meet in your home.

Thanks all.

Even without the dog and them damaging my relative’s home the other day, the thought of 5 kids in my house fills me with dread so I think this is the best plan.

I don't blame you, but 5 young kids in a restaurant isn't going to be much fun either. Is there a park with a cafe near you?

Rainingandlookslikeitwillneverstop · 19/12/2024 18:41

Sounds like they would be feral in a restaurant….

I’d suggest meeting at their house ‘where the kids are more comfortable in their own environment ’ (Aka they can trash their house not yours or a restaurant)

or at a park for a walk etc …

NotCamping · 19/12/2024 18:42

I was going to take them to a restaurant with a large play area.

I wouldn't let them anywhere near my home! Your poor relative. Lesson learned there. I'm amazed your cousin has the nerve to suggest coming to you so soon after that disaster. It indicates they thought that was normal behaviour.

MounjaroOnMyMind · 19/12/2024 18:45

What's the age range of the children?

What's the age range of the children?

She said they were aged between 2 and 9.
.........

No way would I allow children that run amok into my home.

Meet them elsewhere.

NotCamping · 19/12/2024 18:49

The youngest is 2 and the eldest is 9.

Restaurant with play area sounds good.

JC03745 · 19/12/2024 18:52

No- I wouldn't allow them at my home either. Why should you be paying for their meal? Sounds like your cousin invited themselves!

Everlygreen · 19/12/2024 18:55

Restaurant and play area sounds good. 5 naughty and wild kids - no way are they visiting my home!

Delatron · 19/12/2024 18:57

I was going to say 5 young children in a restaurant won’t work either but if it has a play area then good idea!
